You have to go to page 9-10 to find the real bargins it is just getting annoying.

One tip to get around this is when you are in your chosen category, filter the items to things ending today (using the sort by box). This removes all of the galleried items and takes you straight to the 'real' listings.

I know this is not ideal, but I use it and it works for me :T

Think you will find the issue with lots of shop listings will reduced pretty rapidly soon. eBay are increasing the fees for shop listings dramatically and reducing their visibility in the searches.

They have openly said its to get the site back to auction listings as shop listings have proved too popular with sellers, but not buyers who want a bargain! Good news for bargain hunters but bad news for the many businesses that have set themselves up as eBay businesses because eBay were pushing shops as the way ahead right up until this spring.

They will also be starting eBay express in a few months which will have all the shop type listings on it from business sellers.

Personally I would prefer to buy from a business seller with a shop rather than some potential scammer or hong kong seller both of whom seem to be the staple diet of eBay these days.

There are no rules though to say that any auction place shoukld only auction second hand items. Even the real auction I go to carries new stock as well as old collectable (junk) items and house clearance stuff.

with the new postage rates coming in august sellers are fighting an uphill battle, not so many people will pay a high postage fee, which makes the item just as expensive to buy in your local shop.

some things are more expensive on ebay now.....I don't bother with it anymore

I wonder how some sellers ever sell anything. I used to buy loads of CDs on ebay, but now I usually find that CDs are cheaper on Amazon/Play/CDWow. Sometimes they are a tiny bit cheaper, but not when you add postage and many online stores have free postage offers. I guess that not all buyers check the online stores before bidding!

    This is very true.

I've bought a few CD's over the last few days, and only one came from fleabay.

Sometimes they are a few pence cheaper than the shops (Online) even with p&p accounted for, but you often have to wait for days for the auction to end (during which time, of course, the price might rise).

Did get one bargain, though. A new £4.50 CD with free p&p for which the cheapest price otherwise was £22 +£1.50 p&p!
  • It started going down hill when it brought in a £50 minimum reserve amount because people then had to start using But It Now to make sure they got a decent amount for what they were selling.

What made things even worse was changing the default of the search results from 'items located in the UK' to 'items available to the UK'. If you want the kind of auctions where you bid for bargains in the old eBay way try eBid or cqout where there is no minimum reserve and therefore loads of auctions.

Both of these sites are closely monitored for scammers and fakes.
    Numpties...I'm surrounded by them...save me...

Why would they need to use BIN? Just start the auction at the minimum price you will accept. Reserves were never really that useful anyway.

On the left hand side of the Ebay search pages you can set your searches to listed in the UK/ listed in the European community or listed worldwide.

Do you know you can search for used items only if you like? It's on your search preferences - you can search for distance from your home if looking for big utems & you can search for used items first which I often do as it removes all the shop stuff.
