Now I am labelled as a defender and an alligance

Hey, that's up to you to decide but like I said everyone has the chance to stand up no matter their side.
I have done before against "bear" or "bull" but like I said all to often if it is someones perceived side all to often they seem a lot more tolerant.

I cant remember many pulling up the person mentioned in the op's thread before so find it hard to believe now some step in TBH.

Perhaps I find it difficult to understand this pack mentality?

So it was not specifically aimed at you GD but their will be plenty of chances to do similar for both "sides" in the future.

Like I said, I said fair play for saving £100K but the guys attitude to people was appalling TBH so really can't say I feel sorry for the guy or that I admire him. Simply not my kind of person.

I really need to read 3 Billy Goats Gruff again as I have forgotton it but if it's a fable about greed and waiting, waiting, waiting for more, more, more then missing out, then it is a very apt thing to post on the thread.

But I don't think it's supposed to be that at all.

Very briefly: Goats want to go to lush pasture but have to cross bridge with troll underneath. Smallest goat goes over. Troll threatens to eat. Goat says "I'm small, my brother's coming soon. You'll get more meat on him." Troll lets goat go over. Repeat with second goat. Third goat goes over. Troll tries to eat goat. Goat throws troll in river. Troll never seen again. Goats happy in pasture.

The troll isn't really a main character. He's a hazard, a standard "baddie". He's not supposed to want to eat the goats at all. One doesn't expect the moral to be drawn from his experience, any more than one expects the moral of "Snow White" to be about how the witch/queen/stepmother could have succeeded in killing Snow White. But I can't find a moral from the goats' point of view. "Make sure you have powerful allies"??? "Try to get your enemies to attack somebody else"???

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I really need to get up to speed on billy goat gruff!

i haven't given up on it happening - sooner or later interest rates will have to rise , remember there were a lotof people who could only just afford a mortgage before the credit crunch , rising house prices are talked of as a recovery , yet surely hp's were a major part of the problem in the 1st place , gordon knew that if he allowed a major hpc then he would be finished , so all he has done is stuck a plaster over a severed limb . to keep him at no 10 at all costs . the cost of living is only going one way , fuel , food , utilities are all increasing , taxes will have to rise to pay for govt debt . people will have to borrow higher multiples to get on the housing ladder , btl will have to increase rents to cover rising hps .
i'm happy to wait , it may take years , but i believe it will happen , it's the same as people who believe in pyramid schemes cannot fail

good luck, i hope your wait is worth it.

I think the moral is from the troll side and that it is to do with greed and not settling with what you can have then end up losing everything.

From the goat side it is the grass may be greener on the other side but is it worth risking everything for?

    My take anyway. :)

Troll wants to buy house but is waiting for prices to fall.
First goat goes over. Troll threatens to eat. Goat says "I'm small, my brother's coming soon. You'll get more meat on him." Troll lets goat go over.

Troll sees prices start to drop, but greedily waits for more.
    Repeat with second goat.

Troll sees prices drop still further, more than the last crash in fact, but greedily waits for even more.

Repeats trite phrases about "property crashes last years" and "property stays at bottom for years, there will be no rush", and rubs hands in glee at all those people about to be reposessed.
Third goat goes over. Troll tries to eat goat. Goat throws troll in river. Troll never seen again. Goats happy in pasture.

Property market recovers and kicks trolls ar5e. Troll missed a once in a generation opportunity to buy property at a discount. Nobody feels sorry for the troll because could have bought before the crash with cheap finance, could have bought early in the crash with cheap finance AND cheaper prices, could have bought at the trough with more expensive finance but cheaper prices, but had three opportunities to buy and didn't.

He got greedy and screwed up, and now has to suffer the consequences, property prices rapidly heading back to peak, and high deposit requirements, and higher bank margins.

    No sympathy.

I wonder what it's like in Hamish's world?

Jesus, he'd twist the three little pigs into the wolf being a saviour and not actually blowing the house down, but literally blowing the house up to make it worth more.

TBF the wolf was only trying to eat in reality I am sure from a wolfs point of view it is a story of abject failure and evil pigs. :)

If anything bad were to happen to Hamish (or any other forum member), you would certainly not find me gloating over it, or approving of others doing so.

To be fair though Lydia, let's remember that nothing 'bad' has happened to mbg9fag9ba. He's saved a huge amount of money and decided that he doesn't want to buy a house. That's it.

I quite agree that the initial post on this thread, which was basically mocking someone for not achieving something they wanted to achieve, leaves an unsavoury taste in the mouth. But at the same time, the guy wasn't looking for a cure for cancer or attempting to do something amazing for the wider society. It is someone who has saved a massive £100k for a house, decided they are too expensive and decided to have a very public display of throwing his toys out of the pram in an amazing over the top reaction. The guy clearly has some issues he needs to resolve and gain some perspective on life - he sounds like he has a family, a job he likes and a whopping £100k to do whatever he wants. Stop moaning and start enjoying life man.

But as I say, this whole thread can basically be summed up by 'two wrongs don't make a right'. Both him and Hamish are acting a bit like morons, in my humble opinion.

Even in this post which I quote, just saying he has 100k isn't quite good enough for you. You have to go further, and make something out of the fact that the money has somehow been "taken" from others via the public sector. I think you are taking the "want to see suffer" a little too far personally, especially given your want to see the other end of the spectrum, house prices rise, to allow others to suffer.

    .

I think he was probably reacting to this

And you are a filthy thief. Dont expect my generation to pay for your retirement; by the time your generation have finished with the UK it will be finished.
