Morning :hello: ... Starlorna, do you live on the same street as me :D  ... It's not a bad neighbourhood but we are in a corner house which faces a concreted "island" on a junction area ... It's a magnet for the local ASBO-fodder and we do have bouts of trouble with noisy gatherings, abusive language and behaviour and racing up and down the street on mini-motorbikes ... All's been quiet for the last couple of months though ... Still, can't wait to move, I'm moving to a rougher area and a busier road but I will be on the quiet side of the building :D :j ... Anyway ... Didn't get as much done last night as I might have hoped ... Reasonable amount of de-junking and filing of paperwork I suppose ... My mortgage application is in, I now need to finalise my acceptance of the solicitor's quote ... By end of this week I will have shelled out £1250 for various things  ... £600 of that will be offset against my quoted legal bill but still ... Chequebook is aching :p ... Got to go now ... need to draft a letter to solicitor, email a couple of things to the mortgage broker, and then get on with some work! ... This evening I'm meeting a friend I haven't seen for ages, and we're off to the opera at Holland Park ... Not the best weather for it ... It isn't exactly an outdoor venue in that it has a roof like a marquee, but wind and rain can make it tricky to hear the music! ... See you later ... Love Rzl xx

Oh, forgot to say ... My signature ... although I've now started spending my savings on homebuying expenses, I'm leaving the figure in my sig as it is until the end of the month ... I've created a new row in my budget spreadsheet which is a negative figure offsetting the expenditure for now ... Cos I still need the motivation to save as much as possible this month!

    Good morning everyone :j :j :j

It's my last day at work before my honeymoon. I feel ecstatic! :j

ageandjo - hope things calm down soon. Well done for not getting stuck on the M25 though!

Jayjarr - what a horrible story! I hope the council sorts it out soon! Hate when nothing happens because people can't be bothered!

jan59 - food plastic boxes would do wouldn't they?

catowen - fingers crossed for the dentist

jockettuk - Good luck! Hope the move won't be too stressful!

Churchmouse - you go for it. There is nothing more rewarding than a clean house...

troo - we are moving soon! You can have our flat if you like. I will gladly put up with teenagers if I can in return get rid of water leaks, cockroaches, mice and single glazing near a five way major crossing!

DS has the dentist this afternoon, he needs a filing (does anyone else have probs getting their children to do their teeth properly?) luckily its a baby tooth, and im hoping the shock of having the filing might help him listen to me about how he does his teeth!!!!

    Hello!

May I just pop in here to say that it is a myth that brushing the teeth does very much to prevent cavities!

It is just something put about by toothpaste companies.

Brushing the teeth IS very important as it removes plaque from the teeth, and so lowers the overall amount of bugs in the mouth. This will make the mouth feel much nicer, the breath be much better, and gum disease (which accounts for more teeth lost than decay) will be prevented.

Toothbrushing with fluoride toothpaste will introduce flouride to the mouth, which will strengthen up the teeth and help prevent cavities, but it will not stop it.

The way to prevent cavities is SUGAR CONTROL.

If NO sugar went into the mouth, there would NEVER be any decay & cavities. Nomatter how filthy the teeth were. Cavemen, tribespeople and people from before the discovery of sugar had NO decay. (They had terrible gum problems, but no holes).

Of course, in this day and age, NO sugar is virtually impossible.

Fortunately the teeth can repair themselves from sugar attacks. There is lots of calcium and other stuff in the saliva. The problem is that this process is pretty slow. It takes 3-4 hours to repair the teeth after a sugar/acid attack.

If the teeth are brushed too soon after an acid attack then the layer of tooth that has been softened by the attack is destroyed, and cannot repair, hence brushing after sugar can be damaging.

So, the thing to do is to eat& drink whatever you like at mealtimes. If you want sweeties/chocolate/biccies, have them after a meal.

Keep the in-between mealtime period sugar free, as this is when the teeth will be repairing. Make sure any snacks are free of sugar/sucrose/syrup/glucose/honey/any other synonym for sugar, and be aware the ONLY 'safe' drinks are water or milk.

Sorry for the lecture. I had a gap between patients!!!! Hope it's useful!
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

    Morning all :hello:

:grouphug: to all as I can't remember what people have posted (Tikabilla is putting me off :o:rotfl: )

So far today I've stripped DD's bed again , washed pans that OH didn't wash up last night, watered the garden, put towels out on the line to dry after washing them yesterday :o and I've even managed to do all my internet stuff :j

Plan for the rest of the day is:
    • Clean house - only a quick hoover / dust / swipe ;)
    • Finish washing dishes (will include breakfast dishes which is why they've been left :p )
    • Washing x 2 loads
    • Ironing (might be done tonight by OH, all depends on how much I get done today)
    • Gift wrapping / making - forget to get SIL something for her pressie so it's up to DD to make her something :o
    • Packing list / packing of suitcase / travel bag for car to be sorted out
    • Make Tea - macaroni cheese to use up the milk ;)
Should really go and get on with jobs so I can set DD up with some craft stuff to make pressies  Later
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

By the way does anyone know where the avatars have gone??
Hi Penny ... sometimes if there's a problem which is causing the site to run slowly, the techie team disable the avatars for a while while they fix the problem ... The site's been horrendously slow at times over the last week or so, and always starts running at a reasonable speed again as soon as they switch off the avatars! ... They'll come back of their own accord sooner or later :D

Toothsmith - thanks for that info, good to know that it isnt the brushing that is causing the cavity!!!! Thing is, im very strict with the sweet stuff (we still have 2 easter eggs in the fridge!!!!) but my 2 eat a lot of fruit, which is what i normally give them between meals - would the natural sugars in the fruit be just as harmful as the sugar in sweets/biscuits/cakes?

Rose - hope the move goes ok!!!

ageandjo - sorry you didnt get any answers yesterday, i agree with elona, maybe its time to get in touch with your MP?

Rzl - good luck with your savings, everthing seams to be moving really quickly!!!! Hope it all goes ok, and you will soon be in YOUR lovely new flat!!!!

Nikki - good luck with all your jobs.

Ajax - hope the honeymoon goes well ;)

Troo - i have a friend going through horrors with her 15 year old daughter at the moment, im so NOT looking forward to the teenage years with my 2!!!!! Good luck tho!!!!

Lisa - i am that sad (but OS) mum, that cuts my childrens hair, DS has a number 4 all over (is really easy to do!!) and i trim DDs fringe and ends. I also trim my fringe and very rarely go to the hairdressers, as i still havnt found one that does what ive asked!!!!!

Moggins - well done on your meal out last night, your pud sounded like my type of pud!!!!!!!

Aussie - glad they had a generator when you went back!!!!

Hello to everyone else, suddenly have brain freeze, and cant remember what everyone has been up to, i only popped on quickly, but when i read what toothsmith said, made me want to post again!!!!! So hugs to anyone ive missed out, and hope you all have good days xxxxxxxxxxxx

    You're not really causing cavities.

By brushing away the softened layer, the teeth will be erroding a bit, but the layer we are talking about is a few atoms thick, so I doubt you've done much harm yet. ;)

    Control the sugar intake though.
