What next BG taking a risk assessment and having health and safety monitoring there progress
Since when do you need scaffolding at such a low height, it can be done with a short pair of ladders or large step ladder?
UK gone barmy0 -
I dont think it would be any cheaper but what about a cherry picker?
and yes i dunno about access was just thinking out loud
and if BG replaced or fixed the flu before they can do it again
demand a refund63 mortgage payments to go.
Zero wins 2016 😥0 -
Agreed, what puzzles me is IF the flue is not covered, why did they replace it two years ago under the same cover, and why did they recently order the part? Have you been direct with them and asked this?
How did they do it last time? Step ladder? two engineers or one? Do you have any paperwork or reciept for the last time?
I would suspect they are back tracking about being responsible as the engineers that came have deemed it too risky to do, and now BG are in an arkward position. Perhaps their concern is the 'risk' of a claim from an engineer if he fell would cost them more than loosing a customers DD, so they are prepaired to loose your custom.
Incidently, is there a garuntee period for any work they do under the scheme? perhaps 12 or 24 months? Just wondering if you could go that route. If something like the top of a flue needs replacing in less than 24 months, perhaps it wasnt fitted correctly? I would expect something to stay in place longer than that.
How far in is the flue from the edge of the roof, perhaps they cant reach it from a ladder? Does sound odd though, I expected it to be a house not a bungalow...its not an april fools wind up is it?0 -
If the flue is not excluded, and there is no restriction on the grounds of height, then the OP must be covered. In which case they should insist that BG come back and do the repair. If scaffolding or an access tower are required because of their H&S policies, that is an internal matter for them-it's not the OP's responsibility.
No doubt before long BG will refuse to repair any boilers under Homecare policies because 'gas can be dangerous'.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I did think about a cherry picker as we have enough room to get it round the back. I then thought would a BG engineer be allowed to use it.0 -

I don't think we saved the paperwork from last time, Its a shame really.
There was 2 engineers last time and I'm sure he used a step ladder. The flue is about 1m from the edge of the roof.0 -

Same as you say I think they should supply the required tools for the job. I wouldnt like to let them use scaffolding that I had supplied.
I have emailed customer complaints, so will see what happens. Could go either way depending on which muppet gets the email.
As for the flue not being part or the boiler, well the part they brought the other day was a complete part that screws to the top of the boiler.0 -
If you supplied to right scaffolding they come up with an excuse, oh its not been tested, or we cant go up because it might rain
An old saying goes, if you want a job doing well, do it yourself.0 -
That is hardly any height ridiculous more like they dont want to do the work as tehy wel known for trying to get out of doing workFour guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0

but I also think that if TWO engineers were present and they couldnt find a safe way to do the job I would be looking at retraining them.
I could do that job safely on my own without scaffold. (and have done similar jobs many times)
Surely if the OP has homecare cover then BG are responsible for providing scaffold if required?
Why didnt the man who came out to assess the job assess the access too?
it sounds like a pair of lazy fitters job dodging to me.Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0
