Hi, Ive just signed up to this site and dont really know what i am doing but all i do know is that i need to stop spending and this is a great place to start!
Any help is appreciated and any other challenges you think may help me curb my spending habits then please point me in the right direction!

Do you all keep a record of what you have used up and how do you calculate your savings over the month? Sorry i hate being a newbie :( asking silly questions!

    Thanks!

    welcome.

I'm low effort challenger. I jut record spend by saying i spent it. at home i have a small red accounts book i record income/outgoings in....but only I see it!

If you have a debt problem/need help then the debt free wannabes are very good, and if you are facing more serious problems the Bankruptcy board is, i understand, supportive.

on Debt Free Wannabe they will help you pin point where over spends are if you type your income and outgoings.

Yeah im more of a 'spend too much money on rubbish' kind of person, or shopaholic if you want to put a label on it :-)

I do have a loan and a mortgage which takes a chunk out of my wages each month, and being a single parent to a 4 year old doesnt help. I just need to kick the spending habit and free up that extra cash to start saving for our future.

No savings as of yet, again working 40 hours a week and being a single parent with a mortgage etc means there is no spare cash at the end of the month. I feel if i stop the silly spending on clothes/toiletries/etc i can pay off my debts quicker and start to build up some sort of savings fund.

So, i am starting this now!

Will buy a diary to monitor spends, that way i cant ignore it can i!!

Been reading some of the messages on here and the sense of community and the ideas that get bounced around are fantastic, i would go as far as saying inspirational!

I'm so glad this thread is inspiring people!

MSE is a great site. it has its fair share of trolls, so be sure to know if you come across one to not be upset by them.

the vicster, you are reasonably local to me...I just noticed you're in Bath. Bath and Bristol are my nearest cities.

I'm about an hour away from Bristol and probably a little less from Bath. Strange that people you talk to in a forum are literally just down the road.

That would be strange. There is already one member on MSE who lives in the same town (more like a big village) as me and we've joked we could have walked past each other and not known it
