Hi andyD, my theory is that there are DMP gremlins who set about causing havoc as soon as you have your LBM...!!! I've had kettle, tv, car (£300) microwave all go in a month... understand re buying things now as we will have no credit, it's like survival strategy kicks in..
Days out not guilt trips!!! If you're going to do it, Enjoy, otherwise it's a total waste of money, and you can always cut out spending on stuff you really don't need whilst you're out like taking Adsa sweets into the cinema etc...
Have fun! :jDMP mutual support thread member 371LBM Jan 2010DMP Paddle No 20 -

Hi, cccs have been great, I haven't even had to speak to them, I have set my dmp up by email/post. Looks like all most interest and charges have been stopped too. It only took a few weeks to set up as I was in a position to start after one month of token payments so I haven't even had much telephone hassle either, just barclaycard whose payment became due before the paperwork reached them. After I spoke to them the calls stopped.
Just remember, while the same law mostly applies to nireland as england and wales, there are a few sutble differences that work in our favour eg NO BAILIFFS!!! I think its something do to with our political history maybe, but doorsteppers are frowned upon, if not actually illegal, so my terror the other day when a charity collector (whose wife I know,LOL) came to the door was a complete overreaction from me!:rotfl:
Good luck if you choose a dmp with cccs, I am so glad I did, I can breathe againPaddle no. 12

Hi
I wish I could agree with you on this, but in my experience its going to be longer not sooner. We have been on our DMP with Payplan for over 2 years, (starting with £74k and now down to £33k.) and out of our 10 creditors only 6 have stopped interest. Our debt free date should be Feb 2012, but I know that Payplan's balances and the 4 creditors balances are different, due to the interest being added on. Apparently about 3 months towards the end of the plan, they (Payplan) contact our creditors, and ask them to remove the interest charges added, some do, some don't. Some may reduce the interest, but basically what it means, is that in the worst case scenario we may have another 6 months to go, and this is what I have set my mind to. Anything less will be a bonus.
Hi elsie and kingston
Wow elsie - your numbers are aspirational and inspirational! I would be very pleased with only 6 months longer to dfd as ours currently stands!
I'm seeing our dfd as a moveable target... obvoiusly depending on how creditors behave over the term of the dmp. At this point most seem to have accepted apart from the very low balance ones which with hindsight we should have not included and paid off before we started.
Our income will (I will be positive) increase over its term... dh actively seeking promotion, we are happy with. So while we are aiming for a much shorter dfd than it currently is at this point in time our dmp has given us our life back, we are able to be sleep, be parents and not stressed people freaking out about what we will do to make minimum payments, dodging calls etc. As Tedsd said we'd never ever have paid our debt back just paying the minimums!
Our children will learn to appreciate small things and become mini money saving experts. When dd declared she was bored yesterday, I was happily able to tell her that was good it would inspire her imagination and creativity...:rotfl:she did look at me as if i was mad but its true.
Sorry going off my rambling thought process. That'll do you've all stopped reading already!:rotfl:DMP mutual support thread member 371LBM Jan 2010DMP Paddle No 20 -

Good evening (or I suppose its night really)
ljm23k,
I have my account and an overdraft and a cc with ulster bank, was going to move to first trust but just heard today they are going to b taken over so I'm now worried who's taking them over and will they have any links to any of my other debts......what a nitemare I'm sure I'll get it sorted eventually I'm still in that planning stage just want it all up and running.
Isn't the weather horrible, taking kids to see they're cousins 2morrow, we'll all probably b stuck in the house 2gether driving each other mad.....o what joy.
Try bank of ireland, I don't think they are linked to anyone else but be sure to google it. I'm a bit worried ATM as I have debt with La Redoute who bank with Alliance and Leicester who are being taken over by Santander where I have a joint account with my DH :eek:Paddle no. 12

I think that doesn't matter, La Redoute are using the banking services of A&L / Santandur not part of them?
Had similar panic as mbna ( half our debt) bank with the co-op (our current account)!DMP mutual support thread member 371LBM Jan 2010DMP Paddle No 20 -

I hope so, my DH doesn't quite know about the DMP:rotfl:
I will check it with cccs but there's plenty of time as they said will be 3 months after the takeover before they can offset (I think) Of course, they are one of my smallest debts and they are the ones giving bother, AND I'm sure I never signed an agreement with them.....Paddle no. 12
