  • Also do the units to the right of the oven look odd being different sizes? I did them that way so it's equal either side of the oven but i'm not sure.
  • I think the corner looks a little neater, as for the hob. it isn't too far off equidistant.

I would like you to try removing the 900 corner base unit and 200mm shelf and putting in a 1200 straight corner, change the sink base to a 600mm and increase the size of the 5 drawer unit.
This will mean that the return corner can be 400mm, oven unit. 400 unit. This may help to balance up the wall units.

I've been watching this thread with interest. Just one question, I want to start doing a rough plan of my kitchen (proposed new one that is). Where do you go to do the plans as you have above please?

The planner is the IKEA kitchen planner that you can download from their website.

I've tried figuring out the sizes from earlier posts with the rulers in. Hows this for an idea:

I've moved the washer and dryer to the back of the room - by the window, so it shouldn't be to difficult to drop in a water supply and run a drain out that side wall by the window. This frees up the sink to move further, and allows for a dishwasher if you want one. I've moved the full height unit behind the door, I'm not sure if this will fit - but the freezer could always go where the dishwasher is, or units could be shuffled on that run to slot the freezer in there. Still a narrower full height unit could still go behind the door. This leaves a lot of worktop space around the hob, keeping the area open. With the larder space behind the door, you don't need as many wall cabinets, so they can run on the one wall without the controversial corner cupboard. Note on the fan cupboard I've put a long handle - when fitting the kitchen, this would go horizontal in order to mirror the handles of the oven and drawer below. The space below the fan that is white can be covered by a single cover panel chopped in half to fit immediately below the fan - the planner doesn't allow for this, but its what I did in my kitchen.

i prefer that configuration for the cooker wall, but think getting water/waste to the other side of the room for the washing machine, will be quite a feat

yeah, I don't think it would be possible to get a "utility corner" over there. There are no drains as that wall backs onto a bedroom and the wall with the radiator on is butted up against an alley that belongs to next door. The sink wall is easy as that is our back yard. Also remember this is an upstairs flat albeit quite a large one.

If anybody has the planner here is the file with where I am up to right now, save any guesswork on dimensions.

I've brought units around the other corner to see how that works with a table in the alcove, there's also now potential for an inbuilt dishwasher. Could be a little too much kitchen now though :)

Thanks for all the help folks, I realise how important it is to get the kitchen right as it needs to be easy to work in and if we do ever come to move (Can't foresee it for the near to middle term) its the kitchen that sells the house. Your help is very much appreciated.

Same again tweaked for a narrow unit behind the door, and to use the drawer style fridge Ikea do. Note that on the panels with no handle you could still fit one to keep the look in line with all the other handles on that run of cupboards. You'd just have to remember which ones actually work ;)

I definitely prefer the above layout, especially the back wall cupboards, that's what I was trying to explain all be it badly! The kitchen looks so much bigger!
  • Yeah that layout does look very open, thanks for that. I'll stick it in the designs that go to household consultation :) I did try something in this one which definately gives plenty of cupboard space but it means swapping my washer and dryer for a combi or putting the dryer in the airing cupboard in the bathroom...

For those that don't have the planner, is this a workable arrangement for a corner? I'm not sure if it's possible to have a corner unit like that up against an appliance.
