    Hi there,
I just thought you might like to see an Ulriksdal kitchen with the black worktop.

Thanks for sharing. I'm going to go for a dark worktop as well, I think maybe the stainless steel edged one though. Did you get your worktops custom cut or are they ready made sizes? Does having them cut to size add much to the price of the worktop? I'm going for walls painted pistachio green after being inspired by one of the B&Q kitchens in their catalogue. I don't think I'm going to change much from these plans now...

I've listened to what people have to say in the last few posts and have made a few tweaks but this general layout is the only one that really makes sense to me and I can picture in my mind how it will be used and where things would go, it's a big improvement over the original so thanks a lot. I've swapped some shelves for pan drawers beside the oven and one of the display cabinets to timber. Things like moving the utilities to the opposite corner and bricking up the window are just a step too far for me I think. With this layout everything is reasonably convenient already. Waste setup, water supply, cooker circuit etc. As for the opening of cabinets in the alcove I've sandwiched the units with small shelf units at either end to allow the doors to open. Since these pics I've also changed the 5 drawer unit and the pan drawers to the side of the oven to smaller handles. The planner is not showing a warning for the top cabinets, are these hinged slightly differently?

I still think the wall corner units look awkward & don't balance with units below.

Think you've too many drawer units, plus you've not got them all same size & the deep drawers under sink would be neater as cupboards.

Wioe rack looks like an afterthought possibly - can we loose it to put matching sized wall & floor doors?

Have you left enough 'finger' space between the whasher & dryer & units?

The potential safety issue (as well as appearernce) you have created, next to cooker with drawers is also not what I'd do. You have now got - with clever thinking little people - an inbuilt step ladder to whatever is on the hob!

The microwave might be better on the right of the cooker, else you'll be leaning over whatever you have prepared on the worksurface below, to use it.

I do agree with Vansboy about the corner units. Personally I can't stand wall cupboards of any description but yours may look better if they're just fitted along the end of the wall and finish flush with the edge rather than going round the corner? Not sure how practical this would be to access the cupboard in the corner though.I'd also keep the cupboard doors solid on that group as one glass dorr cupboardd looks a bit odd? They do look good on the opposite wall though.
We bought our worktops cut to length but can't remember how much extra this was. The top at the front had to be custome made as it extra deep anyway.

you havnt got a lot of worktop space in that design

do you need/intend to have a table & chairs in the room as well?

also, whats the block that sticks out to the left of the washing machine?

designs look best when you have the units balanced,/symmetrical so your wall units look odd, as you have a narrow one to the right of the hood, and then a wide one to the left, then a run around the corner. i think i would be inclined to terminate the run at the end of the wall, rather than wrap it around the corner. also one glass door looks odd

to give a more streamlined look at base level, have you thought about not having drawer fronts? go for all matching plain doors, and have internal drawers - you get the clean line of units showing on the outside, but also get the function of drawers inside - ive done this in all my cupboards, as it means you dont have to reach to the back for anything

i currently have a layout similar to what you have, but i feel my previous suggestion to move the sink to under the other window would work best, as i find i have 3 useless bits of worktop at the mo. a run to the left of the sink, another short run between the sink and the hob, and then a total waste of space to the right of the hob - like you i thought it would be too much work to move the pipes for the sink, but for the few extra £s it would have cost, i would now have a much more functional kitchen - it didnt sink in at the time that i had water/waste pipes more or less in position anyway, due to the position of the washing machine, so wasnt such a big job, as people made it out to be

now being picky, im not sure i like the full height unit next to the door, as it blocks you view as you enter the room

  • You might want to try using a 600 wall cab in place of the wall corner you have now, but get the co-worker to take one of the doors off (if you order it) so you regain the lost space. You can show this on the planner by using the keyboard arrow keys to "force" the cab into where it should not go. You can also get fine grained control by using the shift key with the arrow keys

    some ideas:

scrap the cupboards in the alcove
(if you do need the cupboard space, go for full height ones, youll just use the worktop as a dumping area otherwise)

move the table towards the alcove
might even find one that you can put away into the alcove if you need more space, are using it to host a buffet etc

extend the base units, & worktop, around the other corner, to the radiator
the washing machine etc could then go in that section, leaving a full run of units under the windows

scrap the wall units & fitted microwave
they look odd, & free-standing microwaves are a lot cheaper

move the cooker 1 unit to the left, that gives more worktop to the right of it, without losing much to the left. should make it all a bit more useful.
could even stand the microwave to the right of the hob then.

Like this? It looks a lot neater now I think, is there an issue with the hob being in the corner like that though? Also should I add a 400mm between the windows?
