Not true - it can always go on the compost!

  • When the marge tub is nearly empty put it upside-down in the pan of mashed potatoes, drained peas or carrots. ..Yummy!

I use the 'waxed paper' bits you remove to either grease cake tins or just wipe on the bread for sandwiches!
Mum used to wash the inside of the washing powder boxes and tip that into the drawer - amazing how much there was trapped in all the little folds! i suppose you don't get that with gel tablets!:D
  • Old wallpaper is great for kids drawing on, lining drawers as well.
  • Had a real giggle reading some of these, I also put water in the bottom of sauce jars to get the last bit out, hair from my hairbrush goes out the window for the birds to use for nests ( my mum taught me that one ).

When I've shredded all my old bills it get used for rabbit bedding, tend to buy cheap pictures in the pound shop or at boot sales then reuse the frames for my cross stitch pics.
Now if I could only find a use for all the dog hairs I've hoovered up over the past 3 years I'd be laughing short of making another Jack Russell.

I've found some great ideas to try from this thread. The only other things I do that haven't been mentioned much yet are

After using butter wrapper to grease tins, use it to line the bottom of a loaf tin instead of baking / parchment paper.

Cut the large 4pt milk cartons in half and use the bottoms as draw dividers all stuck together with tape to make little compartments for kids pants and socks.

After squeezing a lemon, cut the husk into pieces and freeze into icecubes for drinks.

Freeze apple peel from making a crumble to add to soup or stock.

  • I absolutely love this thread ::heartsmil I have just read it from start to finish and haven't laughed so much in days

What's more I recognise so many things you all do. Here's some of mine I may be repeating a few sorry.

I mix half and half tescos washing powder with soda crystals and have noticed a big diff in the whites.
I cut my dishwasher tabs in half and no I don't use gel ones.
I pour boiling water on my saved crushed egg shells then drain it off for the houseplants then use the shells around my plants in the garden.
Reuse my take away containers from the chinese to freeze single portions of either leftovers or planned extras.
Reuse small water/fizzy drinks bottles for kids squash in packed lunches.
Reuse tescos carriers as rubbish bins and dogs doo when out.
Use old christmas cards cut up as gift tags.
Squeeze/push/mix every last drop out of everything.
dilute the handwash which is always bought as a BOGOFF.
Use old newspapers for childrens art sessions and they use old catalogues cut up for pasting. Which reminds me I dilute their glue.

Uuum I think that's all I can think of for now :rotfl: :rotfl:

ooh yes I love this thread too! My friends are always teasing me for being such a tightwad and they don't know the half!

I refill my liquid soap dispensers too, but i use cheap shampoo (Tescos about 55p for a big bottle) My little girls are going through a phase of using loads of soap everytime they wash their hands (but hey, at least they're washing) so I always keep plenty in the cupboard for refills.

keep posting everyone...it's great to know I'm not the only crazy one and i've picked up a few new tips too.

Another great thread.. not read every page though but thought I'd mention that with my middle child I use to pick up extra baggies when getting fruit/veg in Asda and using them as nappy sacks! I buy online now, so not so easy with this one.. however I now use cloth nappies so don't need them so much.

I tip bottles upside down, used plastic takeaway tubs for putting my crafty bits into, they stack great in a cupboard, also kept some for food storage, I use the foil takeaway tins for using in crafts, embossing on etc.
Probably tons more stuff, but too tired to think of it al now.
