I couldn't take coffee sachets unless it were filter coffee;)
I only put out cheap toiletries for the kids because they are a bit heavy handed with them - things like boots basics shampoo, multibuy liquid soap from the 99p shop (2 or 3 for 99p) cheap toothbrushes. Tried expensive brushes and they still only last a month.
Thinkning about winter I rarely heat the house just for myself, apart from lighting an open fire made with the wood I cadged off some builders for FREE :)

    I have done reading too!
To avoid all evil, to do good,
to purify the mind- that is the
    teaching of the Buddhas.
  • I also do nearly all of the above, especially choosing the fullest milk and detergent bottles on the supermarket shelf.
Anyone else admit to tearing out money off coupons from magazines at the doctors/dentists??!!
I've also been known to pick up newspapers left behind on trains/planes etc.
The family have never let me forget the time when on holiday in Majorca I saw a man put an English newspaper into a waste bin, and croossed the road to retrieve it!!! Well- they cost a lot of money abroad!!

Ok but how hot DOES water get in 10 seconds in the microwave?;)
I would imagine pretty hot as there won't be a large amount of water molecules in the sponge. My brother heats a mug of water for 99 seconds to make tea/coffee. I would imagine there's less than a tenth of the water in the sponge (including that inside the bacteria) so I would expect the water to get just as hot. Obviously the only way to be sure would be to find some way of measuring but my educated guess would be that it probably does get hot enough.

Yes, I agree (although I put mine in for 30 secs anyway, and they've never melted or anything). I think though that the actual point in terms of bacteria, isn't how hot it gets, but that the molecules vibrate - it's this that kills the bugs rather than the temperature per se!

my mother in law cuts the toothpaste tube open when finished to get the 'last bit' out

I do that too! And with my hand cream, I always cut about 3/4 of the tube away so I can get to all the cream that's left!!

I also cut my cleansing wipes in half to make a pack last longer! But I like the idea of using them to wipe round the sink and loo - I shall try that tonight!!

My OH uses old CDs (shiny side up) as coasters and sticks cardboard to the bottom of them. They look pretty good at a party. :)
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

I water everything down that you can possibly think of and the kids hate it!! i water down shampoo, bubble bath ( i use that in the hand dispensers instead of liquid soap), bleach so i can put it in a spray bottle so you use less, I even water down the vinegar that the kids put on their chips :D
  • It is sooooo nice to know i'm not on my own with my economy habits. Thanks so much.
I think my worst habit is sitting in the dark when the children have gone to bed to save electrcity - it's not as sad as it sounds, as i knit a lot in the winter and don't need the light for that, and we have a street light outside which gives plenty of light. I know it's still sad - the friends i've confided in say it's sad anyway.
I'm also fanatical about re-using bath water - the children have first bath, i have second, then i soak my hand washing in the water. Finally the water is either used for the plants or to put down the loo - we are on a meter for water and it grieves me to waste any.
    D'yereckon i need help?:D

I water down whole milk instead of buying semi-skimmed. :o
