    hi all,
I am on EQ Voda 200 with Orange and has been using this access number for calls to India. some of them have not been charged but a couple of calls have been charged as international numbers, OUCH!!!

    11/01/05 Tue 14:07 07744974333 talk Anytime 0:07:25 £0.000
    .....................14:08 0091471247...... India talk 0:06:53 £4.686

    26/01/05 Wed 11:04 07744974333 talk Anytime 0:22:51 £0.000
    ....................11:05 00914712......... India talk 0:22:13 £15.125

As you can see duration of calls to 07744974333 is almost same as the duration of call to India which is obviously not possible. Any suggeations on how to speak to orange without telling them it is routing call to India,
    Thanks

I'm worried about what you might have done.

If you dial 07744..., pause a bit then the India number then press Send (or the green phone, whatever), you will put the first call on hold, then dial a new call to the India number; now you've got 2 simultaneous calls. The fact the first is a few seconds longer supports this suspicion. Then they both end together.

You mustn't press send after the wanted number with any of these call-through numbers. The best way to avoid this accidental temptation is -

Before the call, enter 07744974333p00914712..... then Send. The pause character makes a 3s delay on answer, just enough for the start of the welcome message, then it dials the destination. You can get the 'p' as shown in the phone manual, but for Nokia, press * 3 times; for Motorola hold down * about 2s; others, ask.

You can save the number in this format in the phone memory; SIM memory does not like longer numbers - I saved one once but couldn't access it, and it jumped out of the menu, so I cleared memory

I'm sorry if I tended to sound patronising; but unfortunately this sounds like a strong possibility. If you're certain you haven't done this, you already knew, then I'm mystified

THe other possibility is you have both numbers in the memory already, got them from the phonebook and pressed send after each one; it would have the same effect.

I'd guess this to be less likely as you said this was only a couple of calls, not all

Actually I think you can put this number on the sim memory. It was only an old card that was less, and another time I tried phone number, a/c+pin, phone number... up to 32 char ok I think

    I just spoke to them

    1. if u itemised for both calls to 07744 & India [int call] then u unfortunately MUST have press 'send' after the Int numner too.
    2. If u program the 07744974333 number & 'pause' & yr int number , you MUST create a new memory on yr phone. U can't just add 07744 'p' on an old memory 'cos it won't work [apparently]

they say on their website https://www.simply-fone.com , scroll down to bottom of page & thay have some programming instructions.

HI everyone - I have not looged into mse for a while, but nice to see that the 07744 discussion still going on. I had been using it on my 3 network phone since november, when suddenly they started charging it at 25p/min sying it is a personal service number, which infact is not true, as ofcom clearly states - 1) that it ia mobile number and 2) all personal numbers start with 070.
I have had a long endless arguments with the customer services of 3, who are only dummies and have no clue what i am saying. They only seem to read things from what their computer tells them, which is awful cos if they are stuck, they cannot help and cannot find help soon. They take ages to sort things out.

Anyway they charged me in december and i called them. After long argument they accepted to refund the charges. They again charged me in jannuary and again i had to fight with them to refund my money.

BUT THEY HAVE SAID THAT THEY WILL NOT REFUND CHARGES TO THIS NUMBER FROM NOW.

I am planning to take legal action against 3 network, cos ofcom have confirmed that it is a mobile number, no matter which network it is, the 3 deal says any uk mobile network.

Please let me know if anyone else is interested to join hands against 3.

Unfortunately i leave abroad again in 2 days for 3 weeks. But will definitely pursue this matter.

The ofcom site seems to be a bit all over the place on this - there are other sites that list 077449 as a personal rate number with 'higher termination charges' than most mobile networks (tho three's are almost as high!)

Can't remember the link but it is on here somewhere.

I think the problem lies with ofcom who have managed to screw up the numbering so that not all 077, 078 and 079 numbers are mobile anymore even though they still state it in various place

As a PS how did you get your refund out of 3 - they were adamant to me that they wouldn't refund it - even thou I spoke to one of their first line operators who assured me the number was included and then put me through to a next level when I asked why I had been billed for it...
    I think....

Hi - I think ofcom is the regulatory body, and they say they update their website every week. I really had to fight it out with 3 to get the refund
