Yup, me too. Lurpak's quite handy for baking, as it actually has lines on the wrapper to show you where to cut to get X grams of butter.0 -
I wouldn't have anything but butter on my toast, but I always use soft margarine in my cakes! It's easier on the mixing arm.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

Hmmm, wish mine was 210 miles away sometimes :rolleyes:mrbadexample wrote:Morrisons is 840 times closer than me mum. (Morrisons = ¼ mile, mum = 210 miles). Mind you, it's her birthday on Tuesday so I ought to pop home and nick all her baking stuff as a special birthday treat.
Mind you, your mum'd be dead impressed if you baked her a birthday cake

Wow Am very impressed you are going to make a cake.
If you are going to buy 2 packs of sugar, I would go for
White - caster sugar
Brown - light soft brown sugar
Butter - yes probably should buy unsalted but to be honest I dont bother. Anchor has the oz/gm marks on the packet too.
This is the kind of thing you need to mix your cake, although a hand whisk or wooden spoon (even one with corners) and some elbow grease would be fine.

Love to see a picture when it's done. Which recipe are you going for?

If you mean "please will you post a picture" then I'd be happy to oblige.
No offence intended.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

That settles it then. I'm having a bash at that one.

yes- any man or woman for that matter can- some of world's greatest chefs are men!. most supermarkets (if not all) have basic cake mix- you just add an egg and water- put it in a greased cake tin and put in the oven. all the instructions are on the back of the packet. you can become more adventurous as confidence grows- e.g. making your own cake mix, pastry etc - you also don't need to spend a fortune on cooking utensils. stores also sell roll out pastry. happy cooking. So, do you reckon I could bake a cake?0 -
