Can't seem to keep on top of updating the diary these days. Did a boot sale today and earnt £80 profit though so pleased with that. Not looking forward to tomorrows weigh in, feel very fat today and have been craving sweet things all week so its not going to be good news....

  • *blows dust off the diary*

well I've got loads of excuses (the "best" one being a week in hospital with my youngest who we thought for a while might have meningitis ) but I'm just going to pick up where I left off and resume the diary.

No great movement on the CC debts, but will fall under the £9000 mark once this months payments have been made AND we haven't used them at all since I started this diary so that's a big improvement. For the last couple of years we've paid loads off the cards but ended up using them again & being in worse debt at the end of the year.

We managed to save up plenty of spending money for our wet week in Norfolk, luckily because the weather was abysmal and we ended up spending a fortune. That was the first time we've ever had a holiday without ending up with more CC debt at the end of it though, so mission accomplished.

We had a bit of a nightmare with DH's van (which he can't work without) and that ended up costing £800. I'd saved up £400 towards it and luckily one of his customers decided to pay us 3 months money that they owed us so we were able to pay the rest without getting into debt - another first!

We've had a bit of a wobble with the rest of the savings for various reasons, and we're cutting it fine to get straight for the winter before DH's work dries up so I really need to buckle down and get my MSE head on now. So, back to the spending diary (not to mention the diet..)

    For yesterday:

Spent: Nothing, stayed in all day

Sins: With dinner - 1 small roast potato + some crackling + gravy + yorkshire pud
    Pack of giant choc buttons
    Crunchie
    Strawberry split lolly

  • For yesterday:

Spent: £10 dinner money for DS1 (he's taking packed lunch from next week + £1 a day, £2.50 on Fridays)
£65 on clothes for me & the children, our autum/winter collections
    £10 on a Christmas present

    Sins: Strawberry split lolly
    Pineapple split lolly
Magnum (stolen from DH's stash while he was in the bath, its pmt week - what can I say?)

Today is going to be a huge spending day. I've ordered a monthly shop £250ish; need some stationery; taking both the girls to Clarks for new shoes; DD2 seems to only have summery clothes that fit so need some more long sleeve stuff for her. Plus have already spent £30 on ink cartridges this morning.

Must try harder on the diet, I am not happy now at 11st 2lb and if it creeps up I'm going to be even more miserable.

  • For yesterday:

    Spent:
    £6.28 on stationery
    £23.95 on clothes for DD2
£25 on trainers for DD2 - didn't have any we liked in DD2's size so will need to go out at the weekend for those
    £5.99 on a fleece for DD1
    £254 on monthly shop
    £30 on printer ink

    Sins: Fab lolly
2 bites of a DD2's leftover chocolate croissant before coming to my senses and binning it

Slimming World this evening plus have remembered that I haven't paid the paper bill for about 7 weeks.

Feeling unjustifiably miserable this morning so will go and moan at the kids rather than clog my diary up with whinging...

  • For yesterday:

    Spent:
£10.28 on groceries (replacing things that had been sub'd on my home delivery order, + large pack of marshmellows)
    £4.95 SW

Sins: The aforementioned large pack of marshmellows, in one go whilst in the car on the way to be weighed. Obviously some sort of deep-rooted, self-sabotage thing going on there.

    Fab lolly
    Yorkshire pudding with my dinner
    Large handful of raisins

I've put on 0.5lb, not exactly a shock
    Had put on

With yesterdays SW weigh in at 11st 10 (3lbs heavier than this time last year ) and January's predicted outgoings at £271 higher than income is high time I made an effort to reinstate the diary.

I'm going to keep it simple so it doesn't seem too much of a chore to update when I feel like I can't really be bothered, just 3 items to update:

    Yesterdays spends:
    Slimming World - £16.75 (catch-up subs + mag)
Morrisons - £5ish (must start remembering actuals instead of ish's)

Nearley bought 2 paperbacks for £6.99 but applied willpower & will get back into the library habit instead

Yesterdays Sins (above allowance of 10)
None (unless Lemsips have sins, which they probably do)

    Current state of monthly finances
    -£271

On a more positive note, I am proud of my achievements since starting this diary. This winter has been the first since DH started his business that we haven't spent anything on our credit cards, our overall debt is £2000 less and although I am well aware that life is unpredictable we do feel like we're on a safer financial footing than we were this time last year. Onwards and upwards!

So I've missed a day already, good start ML...

Tuesdays spends: £9.61 in Asda; £20 petrol

    Tuesdays Sins: 11/10

    Yesterdays spends: £108 weekly shop

    Yesterdays Sins: 11/10

Current state of monthly finances: -£338

I need to get a grip on grocery spends so the plan is to start shopping at Asda or Morrisons instead of having a weekly delivery from Sainsburys. I use a meal plan, so there shouldn't be any need to do more than weekly shop on a Wednesday then a top up for fruit & veg on a Saturday.

I seem to have fallen back into the habit of spending £120 - £140 per week again which is too much, I've got stuff in the freezer so next week and the week after I'm setting myself a budget of £75 per week.

I read somewhere recently that using exclamation marks is like laughing at your own jokes. I'm going to have to give them up, for reasons of pride and self-respect, but I'm going to miss them. I've wanted to use one at the end of each of these sentences.

Anyway, yesterdays facts & figures are...

Yesterdays spends: £2.10 library fine from ages ago

    Yesterdays Sins: 9/10

Current state of monthly finances: -£236
