Thanks! I've been having a trawl through other threads and using too much water seems to be a common suggestion, esp when following the Panasonic recipes. Off I go to try again!!

I've always used either sunflower or vegetable oil for regular loaves and have never used butter.

Have you tried making bread on the normal setting rather than rapid bake?

I tried rapid bake once using my usual recipe, but the loaf came out sticky and heavy. I've never used that setting since, and always use the normal setting.
Here I go again on my own....

I have the same problem with the rapid bake programme on my Morphy Richards machine, its not a good loaf at all! I too stick to the normal setting!

  • Yes you can definitely use oil. Olive oil is great. I can't tell you how much to use, because I never measure anything.

    Basically, yes.
It affects the flavour though. I made pizza today and used some of the oil from a jar of sundried tomatoes. V. nice.

Mmmmm to the tomato pizza dough that sounds lovely!

Just thought I'd give an update - I cut the water down from the 290ml suggested in the book to about 250ml and I also used the full bake setting rather than rapid bake.

Result - one YUMMY loaf this morning!! Hooray I am so happy and can't wait to make something else, think we might be stockpiling bread for a while!

Thanks for all your help, going to get some healthy oil to try next time as I don't want to overdo the butter!

I have done a search but can't find the answer to this question...

I have no butter but wanted to make a HM pizza in the BM. I'm sure I read somewhere that you can use oil instead of butter but I'm stuck on the quantities.

So... Does anyone have a recipe for pizza dough using oil (with quantities please!) or can anybody tell me how much oil to use in place of 15g / 1/2 oz of butter.

    Thanks in advance.

About one tablespoon will be fine, and you could go up to two with no problem.

The recipe for my bm pizza dough uses 2tsp sunflower oil, no mention of butter anyway.
