I have steadfastly resisted getting a Sat Nav, but have second thoughts about it all the time. Mostly, I am worried that it will get me into a panic in the car becuase I have a dreadful sense of direction and also cannot tell right from left. :(

After many years of MSing, I have a vast range of town street maps, which I keep in the car, together with several folders of googlemap printouts. I now know all the towns within a 50 mile radius pretty well and seem to get by without clocking up too many unnecessary miles. I rarely end up having to go to places I haven't been to before, and I have all of my cross-country routes down to a T.

What does interest is me how good a Sat Nav is when there is an unexpected road closure: can you get it to give you the quickest/shortest alternative route without too much hassle? Can you, jediteacher, or anyone else, answer this?;)

Unless you have a kit that lets you know of accidents or delays.

I have a Tom Tom XXL and it has auto update every ten minutes. It's linked to all the radio traffic reports and if I'm on a journey and a delay occurs on my route it will automatically re route around it. It's amazing. I recommend you get a sat nav :)

I too cannot tell my left from my right but this doesn't seem to be a problem as I look at the picture on the SAT Nav and the pink line shows me which direction.

My SAT Nav does give me an alternative route when there is a road closure and it's not been too much hassle.

The only thing that annoys me is that it tries to take me along motorways when I know the route is shorter by A roads. However, it does not do this all the time and I really have come to rely on it especially when there is a road closure and I've no idea how to get round it!

Anyway, I best be off have 3 MS jobs to do and still need to put the postcodes into the SAT Nav! :rotfl:

    Hiya Jedi,

Can't you set it to avoid motorways? all the toms toms can I think, well mine does and another older TT I had did too.

    Hi guys

I'm really new to all this, I've joined the obvious shoppers but am having little luck with being assigned :(. Had one ESA so far, Helion I have signed up for about 21 of the phone ones but no joy and the 4 in my area I applied for and didn't get.

Any ideas for the 'best' or most frequent mystery shopper ones? I'm really eager to give it a go as I work my main job on flexi time so it's ideal, and I would LOVE to clear my debts below by The end of financial year 2010.... optimistic I know but that's the kind of person I am :)

    Thanks guys :p

    Hi and welcome :)

It's a case of patience I'm afraid. Some companies take longer than others but you will be allocated more. A lot work on a rotation, so sooner or later, you will get something.

Have you widened your search? I couldn't see any either but when I put in within 200 miles 4 pages showed up. Unfortunately they are actually all very far away from me.

I don't have a TomTom I have a Garmin. Still figuring it out to be honest as I refuse to read instructions (drives my husband mad as he is an avid instruction reader) and it's trial and error! :o

Thanks will play around with the Sat Nav and see.

My sat nav is a complete nightmare! If there's a road closure there is nothing I can do. I can set it to not to do a u turn but then it just tries to go around the block. Last year I had to cancel 2 jobs because I just couldn't find my way to them due to a road closure. I couldn't even use my common sense or sense of direction as it was country lanes and I was completely lost. I gave up in the end and went home.

    Ha ha,

I'm the same as your hubby.........read the destruction's always...

My OH is exactly like you, he never ever reads the instructions then comes to me saying "whats going on here" etc etc

If you get into settings or change profile, it should have one that says 'avoid motorways' avoid toll roads, and some other settings.

    Good luck :)
