    Hi All
After my pretty embarrasing failure last month, only managing 2NSD's!:o can i stick with 6 again this month.
Really struggling to get going with this challenge - but do want to get better. The posts with 10+ NSD's make me hang my head in shame!!!
    Trin
Hi Trinny, it's a good job BigMumma isn't around to see that "f" word - we don't use that word on here. You had 2 days last month when no one had your money but you - that's a bonus:). Keep posting on here, we'll give you loads of encouragement and you will get to your 6 days this month.
    Chin up:):) and welcome back:)

    Hi!
I hope you don't mind if I join in too? April has to be a very frugal month for me - I need to start really economising to help me through the lean months of July and August when I won't get paid for teaching - hopefully will have a full time job in Sept though!
I'd like to attempt 10 NSDs in April as a first effort please.
    Thank you!
Hi rachelmk, of course we don't mind if you join - the more the merrier - so welcome aboard:), good to have you here:). Fingers crossed with the job hunting and good luck with the economising, sounds as though you're going to potentially have a tough time in July and August. Have a look at the old style board on here - there are lots of ideas for making do on a very small budget, you might find some ideas there. There are also some ideas on the first page of this thread. Look forward to seeing you around on here regularly:)

Haven't got a flippng clue micron. Here's what MSE says:-

"Don't fill it up. Efficiency Improvement: Up to 1%
Fuel is heavy, so by filling the car up you're adding quite a weight. The less fuel your car has in it, the more efficiently it drives. Thus filling up slightly more often and putting less in (to 1/2 or 3/4 full) will make the car run more efficiently."

This was taken from the guide on Motoring & Travel and there are more hints and tips to make your fuel go that little bit further. I've always filled up - it feels tidier and neater to fill up and then go right down and then fill up and then go right down (part of my budget OCD I think). But am going to make a concerted effort not to fill up in future. I will put around £12 in tonight to get it to 3/4 full as am doing 200 miles before I will be down at my BF's where he has cheaper petrol anyway and can't make it otherwise.

But let's see if I can work it out.....The bit where I get my knickers in a twist:-
So my car (fiesta) has a 40 litre tank (8.79 gallons) and at my local garage it's 116.99 per litre so that's £46.80 for a tank. Currently getting 40.1mpg so thats 352.5 miles per tank. If my efficiency drops by say 1% because I've topped up to a full tank (to save 10p as I currently have a 1/4 tank) then my mpg might become 39.7mpg then ........hang on, I gave up and went and got a coffee and a cheeky kitkat.

If it's going up 1p per litre then what the hell am I worrying for??
    That's 40p extra per tank.

Panic over. Sorry for the false alarm :o It's just that in the past months I've seen the cost of a tank go up by about £5 and I do quite a bit of mileage so I've become my father and am obsessed by pump prices :rotfl:

Right........whatother scare mongering can I do today.............

curlygirl, thanks for all that info... after your calculations I have decided to keep today as a NSD and wait until my petrol goes down some more. I like to fill up my tank as well but I'm going to try filling it 1/2 or 3/4 full. Thanks again much appreciated.

    Hi,

I signed up for the grocery challenge today but want to see if I can achieve 15 NSD's for the month of April too so please add me to the list :)

This should keep me focussed and stop me adding to the cupboard full of toiletries (many unopened) I have at home!

    Thanks!
