Hi, this evening everytime I start my pc and try to access the internet my computer gets really slow and then freezes. This freezing is for internet and non-net applications. I think it must be some form of virus doing this.
I have booted in safe mode to access the internet and work on the pc.
Any suggestions please?

reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log):idea:0 -
when I scan should I close all other programs and disconnect from the internet?
should I run them in "normal" or safe mode or it makes no difference?
thanks for the quick reply"enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0 -
Malwarebytes needs to be updated to work, so run in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING
Hopefully it will remove some nasties to be able to run hijack this in NORMAL mode:idea:0 -

TICK and FIX this in hijack ~
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WindowsUpdateManager] C:\Documents and Settings\Rich\Application Data\winsvcn.exe
As you have trojans ~
Please run COMBOFIX
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
Shut down your anti virus
Follow the simple instructions it gives
Post the COMPLETE log it creates here (Split into sections if need be) ~ if there are loads of 'SNAPSHOT' pages then leave them out
If it comes up with a RENAMING error then RIGHT click the exe file and RENAME and call it QWERTY (Making the complete file name 'QWERTY.exe') Or SAVE as 'QWERTY' on download:idea:0 -

looks like their in your system restore folder, disable system restore completely, reboot, then re-enable system restore. that should delete those files.
you also need to delete the following file
2010-03-28 09:04 . 2010-03-28 09:04 55808 --sh--r- c:\documents and settings\Rich\Application Data\winsvcn.exe
2010-03-28 09:04 . 2010-03-28 09:04 55808 --sh--r- c:\documents and settings\Rich\Application Data\winsvcn.exe
h = hidden
so you will need to unhide the folder or use a 3rd party windows explorer like xyplorer which shows hidden files.0 -
Open notepad and copy/paste the text in RED below
File::
c:\documents and settings\Rich\Application Data\winsvcn.exe
c:\windows\system32\drivers\revoflt.sys
c:\windows\system32\4B3BD44527.sys
Save this as "CFScript"
Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.
This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply
Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
:idea:0 -
I'd get rid of Limewire as it's notorious for spreading malware0
