DH and I are going to Helmsley on the North York moors for the weekend, can't wait. But DD2 has put a dampener on it as she says I'm being selfish going as it's DS's last weekend home, but I saw him yesterday, will see him today and Monday and Tuesday morning before he goes back. He is not concerned in the slightest as in his words he will be 'on the p$ss' with his mates every evening as well as Saturday afternoon and probably sunday afternoon as well! He's making the most of it because he can't drink for six months whilst he's there. Her dad is going away with his girlfriend for the weekend as well, wonder if she's said the same thing to him, probably knowing her! Do you think I'm being selfish? This has been booked weeks after discussing dates with DS
You're not being selfish... in fact your DS will probably enjoy knowing that he can spend time with his mates knowing he wn't need to feel that he should be spending it with you. It saves him from the conflicting priorities and associated guilt. And if he's happy with it, then she should be.

Half the ironing is done... three more shirts to go. I really should't leave them until they're crispy... it just makes it harder! Still, one more teleconference later and I should get them done.

Better go and put some more washing in...

I definately do NOT think you are being selfish, he will enjoy his time with his mates, you are going to see him plenty and chances are that the more time you spend with each other the more nervous each of you will get. A normal environment at home before he goes away will be more settling anyway. Maybe DD2 is worrying about not seeing her brother much?

just a quick visit and caught the news of Sandy.
I am totally gutted for her and the family and pray that the chemo will do its job - its not nice but can work well very quickly. (I remmeber it well!) give her my love and i will be sending strength to fight the tumour - positive mental attitude helps enormously - she has everybody's love and support - she needs to get the practical help and support too - tell her to ask for a referral to MacMillan - sorry I cant really think of what to say I am so very sad for her and her family. i will light a candle tonight for her and her hubby to - he must be in shock too.
    toots xx
    Peace will be mine
could do better - must try harder

No, not selfish at all, same as what Greenbee said about guilt/conflicting priorities. Plus Helmsley is lovely, we live not too far away, can recommend the walk from Helmsley castle to Riveaulx on little bit of Cleveland Way, plus all the NT and EH properties round there are great, as is Duncombe park. Hunters deli is THE best and has gorgeous sandwiches, Nice Things cafe good, Foster & Hawkes very good toyshop, good pubs, nice Italian restaurant, Browns, could go on, you can't tell I like it can you :D Do have a lovely time.

I am glad I tried to finish by 3 as I have just done so now, would never have finished otherwise. OH finishes in 10 minutes so will probably be back by 4, just the last couple of things to put in but can't be done until I log myself off here and pack my laptop.

Will be sending vibes to Sandy, have a good week or so and I will tell you of our jaunts when we get back.

Thanks serena, greenbee, ajmoney and lemanie for saying I aren't being selfish. As you say the more normal weekend he has the better and I think he doesn't want to spend too much time with me in case I blubber all over him! We are a crying family, but I WON'T, I have to send him off with a big hug, a kiss and a smile.
Lemanie - we go there about 2-3 times a year, love the place, done loads of walking and sight seeing
