Or even better, Jan 2008, or 2009... you can see where I'm going with this?clairehas wrote:yeah why the 21st August! why not the end of augs of better still january 20070 -
I sell flat items, which I send in board backed envelopes in order for them not to get bent in the post. Unfortunately, these envelopes are about 5mm too wide, so fall into the large letter category.
I have written to several places, like Viking etc. to find out whether they will be selling board backed envelopes at a smaller size due to the new postage system and none of them seem to have any idea what I am talking about. This amazes me, I would have thought stationary companies would be jumping all over these changes to promote new sized envelopes, etc.
Anyway, in case it helps anyone, I am going to switch to using 229 x 162mm 'normal' envelopes with one or two sheets of folded A4 card. Although this means more work, ironically it works out cheaper than the board backed envelopes. Unfortunately this isn't as stiff as the BB envelopes are but hopefully it should do the job.0 -
Nightswimmer, I am ssure if a compay thinks if there is money to be made in making a different sized envelope , they will make it...... bet it wont take viking long to sell the letter and ''large letter" envleopes....but its still up to us not to make it too fat!!0

I assume the change is being made in August as that is a quiet time of year with holidays, etc. Certainly my sales always take a dip in August.0

Slightly off topic but still on topic....if you see what I mean!!!!!
the Staples DHL service has also changed. You now have to use their boxes to pack your item and they range from an envelope to an xxl box with various prices from £5.99 to £19.15  for uk standard delivery. This is from the flat fee of £8.00.
The xxl box will only fit a small printer or fax machine and will cost the maximum amount.
Does anyone know of a cheap, reliable courier that I could change to?0 -

Changes on my birthday, well it's kicked my backside into gear to sell the low value items now before it increases, going to get a lot less for them tho
I have no idea how to change them on shops but on every listing I've made I have put please pay before 17th of August so I have enough time to send item before price increases or postage will be higher.
Anyone else think this has been spurred by the increase in people using the likes of Ebay and Amazon grrr!!One day I might be more organised...........

Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
see my problem is i normally post first class recorded for £1 i have a light yet fragile item which has to go in a A5 envalope with lots of bubble and as i get free packing the only way i undercut my competitors is on postage costs as they currently charge upwards of £2.50...sooo annoying sorry *rant over* Democracy is a process by which the people are free to choose the man who will get the blame.:j0

8. What about International mail?
None of our International Services, ie. Airmail, Airsure, International Signed For and Surface Mail are affected by the changes.

I take that to mean the International post will still be based on weight not size. For me that means Europe postage on one of my smaller items will be virtually the same as 1st class post within the UK.
Soo
that is really helpful as I was worried most about the stuff that I ship internationally
My main plan is to have big clear out in the next week0
