£7 spend yesterday but got some bargains! Need to spend a wee bit again today- need some ham for my train journey tomorrow.

Will update my sig in a mo. Well I was so proud of myself! Out of one portion of mince, I got three meals for four out of it- A shepards pie, A lasagne, which I had yesterday and it was delicious and a chilli! I actually couldn't believe it. I think I have been using faaar too much meat in my meals. Oh well you live and learn huh?

Definitely going to use lentils more often. I really like them anyway so don't know why i didn't use them more before.

I must say having the spare freezer has helped immensely in cost cutting. Definitely money well spent!

    Enjoy the day all :)

I agree with wssla00 about flapjacks, also try Twinks hobnobs and fruit (or chocolate!) buns (Victoria sponge recipe, with cinnamon and 1/2 the sugar). I also make fat-free fruit loaf (tea-bread). I alway cook in big batches (4 loaves, 4 doz fruit buns and 100 or so hobnobs at a time ) I slice the fruit loaves when cool , then bag and freeze all but one. The buns, flapjacks and hobnobs get put into tubs (I use 1kg stork marg tubs), label and freeze...with luck you should only have to bake once a week! Keep enough out to last a few days, but then you have plenty to keep him/you going to last the week (or more if you are lucky!). This is how I manage to keep DS2 reasonably satisfied (a very large, diabetic, keen rugby player), without having to bake every day! I also bake four wholemeal loaves a week too! Thank goodness for my 3 foot-wide oven!!

This could be why my food bill is rather on the large side! Mind you, it was worse when DS1 was at home all the time too!!

Good luck with filling your your son's bottomless pit! :D
I have a teenage bottomless pit also, who is very keen on football and not only plays but also referees.
I have found that he likes to grab and go but will stop long enough to make a sandwich if all ingredients are easily accessible; to this end I bake a large hm loaf every day and once cool slice and bag so he can grab that, I cook larger joints of meat than we need and slice off the extra to use for fillings, also usually have tuna & mayo or egg & mayo handy in the fridge.

This way he is getting filling fuel without it being sweet all the time; I do also bake cakes and flapjacks, and he will also grab either an apple or banana.

    He has
    3 weetabix for breakfast
bacon bun mid morning at school
either the cooked option or a large chicken salad baguette or a bacon and cheese panini for lunch
as soon as he walks in the door he will have 4 slices hm bread and sandwich fillings, plus fruit and yogurt
dinner is usually cooked from scratch full roast or casserole type meal with lots of veggies added, dessert will either be a pudding if I've made one or cake from the box
supper he will again have 4 slices hm bread and sandwich fillings, with more fruit and yogurt

He also drinks plenty of water or diluted squash.

In PE they did the BMI and fat/muscle ratio measurements and his were well into the good area for someone his age, height and weight.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

Hope everyone is well today and the sun is shining for you where ever you are.
Well my shopping total today was £31.85 so over from the £25 I reckoned on. :( I did pick up a few extras but only some fish, salad and coleslaw so not to bad and then nipped into W*lko's and got two 2lb loaf tins, couldnt find any 1lb ones which also wanted. I was looking for some of the paper liners for the tins but they didnt seem to stock them - anyone know where they can be brought from?

So in all a total of £255.83 spent to date, there will be the butchers to visit on Sat and also some extra f & V and perhaps bread in the week. Have £44.17 left out of budget though to last until 28th so we will see.
If I manage to shop within the budget budget set this first time I shall be over the moon. I know I still have a higher GC than many on here for amount of mouths to feed but even this £300 is a £100 less than normal :j Off to update signature now and then hopefully finish cleaning the shed out. Took a car full of things to cancer charity shop yesterday.
    MARCH £62.38/250

Billie-Jo - I was going to suggest Lakeland too!

Be warned...it is a dangerous place to go...your money just disappears (but you do get lots of lovely goodies :D)
