Spent £3 today on a boots meal deal as I forgot to take my packed lunch! Haven`t forgotten to take lunch with me for ages. Glad I don`t buy lunch from the shops everyday it is certainly not cheap.
Make £2 a day challenge - doing well so far.

AAArgh! I ended up doing a mega-shop in Mr T today...suffice to say it was over £100!!:eek:. Mind you, I am still £57.30 within budget...but with 11 days to go, it may be tight!

A lot of things were our regular buys, but many of them had offfers which end this week, so I got lots!! I should save money in the long run...I hope! It was the first time in ages I have gone round in person with a trolley to to a mega-shop...should really stick to online methinks...it will do both my purse and back much more good!!

Oh well, I have learned a lot today...there were quite a few things I did put back, or walked past, goodness knows how much I would have spent in "the bad old days"!! :D Mind you, I probably wouldn't have stocked up on so much of the offers either. So although I got lots of stuff...it was all on the shopping list (with a pedometer for DS2 and some flower seeds the only "extras")....I just got lots of it! You live and learn.
    :o

Right, off to make tea, mashed potatoes with liver & onions (DH & me) and sausages for DS2, with lots of veg too. DS1 is staying at GF's again...saves us money! I am all for it, though it would be nice to see him once in a while before he heads back to Uni this coming weekend. :)

Planning on getting a few NSDs under my belt this week, to help me stay in budget...here's hoping!
    ;)

Hello Jasperconran :hello: like you I am a newbie. This is my first month of doing the GC
I do a meal plan every week (could do 2 weeks or even a month whichever works for you) and then work out from that what we need to buy and also consider what you already have in. This should help you to know what meat to get.
I have found that sticking to my shopping list and not grabbing all these extras that the supermarkets tempt you with really does help to keep the bill down.

Today was to be NSD but then DH decided we should go to A*da as we hadn’t been for ages.
Needless to say I spent some money in there :eek:although three things were from the whoopsied counter - broccoli, swede and radishes.
Also brought 3 cooking dishes, a new loo brush and a birthday present all of which will include in the GC. So total cost of £23.80 spent today.:(

After a good start to the month am just beginning to wonder if I can do it this month now.:( Have been spending £100 EVERY week so even if I do go over a bit this time I should still be almost £100 better off and it is my first time at doing this. Excuses coming already!:rotfl::rotfl::whistle:

On a more positive note I do have the main raw ingredients in for tomorrow (meatloaf) and Wednesday (mushroom stuffed chicken breasts). Will start a menu plan tomorrow ready for Thursday and onwards and plan around some things that are already in the freezer and store cupboard so hopefully wont be too bad when go shopping on Thursday. Fingers crossed for me.
    MARCH £62.38/250

    Hi all

Another £6.73 for me today but things are running a bit low so I will have to be really careful for the next few days.
Unfortunately I've promised DD1 a chinese meal tomorrow - DS and DD1 go back to school tomorrow followed by an after school dental appointment (double whammy!) but a takeaway will mean I don't have to cook either!
August Shopping Challenge. 26/8. Budget £250 Spent £256.81.. £6.81 over. So £0.00 a day left.

  • Spent £3 odd today in the co op on some frozen pastry and some whoopsied packets of veg. Had some left over gammon today in a stir fry thingy & tomorrow I am going to make a quiche. I will then freeze the rest of the gammon that's not used.

I have 1 week to go on my target & I already have a list of things to get. It's looking very tight!

  • Whoops! Several 'pop-ins' over the past few days have lead to the following spends:

    Mr M's £6.04
M&* £12.99 (succumbed to the dine in for £10 for two deal - plus extra pud to make it stretch to a dine in for £10 for the whole lot of us)
    L**L £5.26 (6 packs of tango/pepsi for only £1.09).

This should mean that I don't need to do a full weekly shop on wednesday.
