Phone problem

Hi Guys.

I've just started a Broadband contract for very first time, was previously on dial up. Anyway got a problem. When I was out and called home with my mobile, my husband couldn't hear me at all, although I could hear him. I called to the landline and his mobile and both were the same. I've checked all the contacts in house, I've got filters on my two home phones and it's still the same. This happens whether I'm on the net or not. Calls between landlines are fine. Any help please

So the fault must lie with your own mobile phone then and has nothing at all to do with your broadband (which exerts no psychic influence over mobile phone reception).

Thanks Kwikbreaks I'll check with a different mobile tomorrow when I go out.

The microphone has failed in your mobile. An easy fix for an independent phone shop or market stall, depending on the model.
Handy hint: you don't need to go out to test your mobile-they work indoors too...

Thanks macman but I've just unplugged the router and gone upstairs with my mobile and rang the homephone and when my husband answered it was perfect sound. Plugged router back in again and rang again and it didn't work. So router is causing the problem.

Are you using a wireless router, and also cordless phones?
Try a test call to a wired phone.

If the problem goes away changing the routers wireless channel will probably sort out your problem.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

But in your first post you said that mobile to mobile calls were showing the same problem?
If that were the case, then the problem cannot have anything to do with your router-there is simply no connection between the two systems.
If you can hear your husband clearly then that does not mean that he can hear you, because his mike is stilll transmitting to your working earpiece.
What happens when you make landline to landline calls with and without the router plugged in? If your theory about the router is correct, then there should be a problem with landlines too.
If the problem is only present on the landline when the router is connected, then the likely cause is a bad ADSL filter.
edit: I think penrhyn may have spotted the problem, I was forgetting about DECT phones! If you have the base station near the router, try moving them further apart.

You don't filter routers, the ADSL filter goes on the phone side of the set up.

I give up! we've been changing things and testing all day and still have same problem I know it sounds impossible that the mobiles don't work either but they don't.. We've tried three different mobile phones that all work perfectly outside but inside they don't. When I am out and I ring home to landline it doesn't work and when I ring home to mobile it doesn't work. All calls between landlines work well even international calls. But I cannot receive calls from mobiles.By the way home phones are corded. Thanks for help but like I said I give up now. The landline calls work so I'll manage.

You still haven't said if you are using a wireless router, or connecting by ethernet cable?
