Strange question, but cooking some brussel sprouts for OH and he wants to share with the bunny!
If I defrost one, can I give it to him? I assume I can't feed him a cooled, cooked one?Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
I assume so! Why are you cooking sprouts at this time of night? lol0
-
No! Rabbits should never be given food that has been frozen.0

oops sorry didnt know that - why is that turtle?0

Bunnies do not like Brussel sprouts. So why do you want to force them onto your pet, be they raw, or cooked and defrosted?0

Absolute nonsense. I have a bunny, and my ex had two (which is why I now have a bunny!) and all three love sprouts. I've never tried them with cooked ones, but they're more than happy to scoff down fresh ones. They especially liked it when I got them on the stalk from sainsbury's. Not seen them on the stalk in asda or tesco that I can remember.
As for Turtle's comment that rabbits should never be given food that's been frozen, I'm not disputing it as such, but I personally can't see any reason why not, and Turtle not justifying their comment with a reason makes me think it's nonsense. Why do people feel the need to state something as fact, but don't back it up with a reason?They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
I don't have a rabbit but when i bought my two guinea pigs i was told NEVER to feed them food that has been defrosted, i didn't think to ask why, but I've just fed them fresh fruit/veg and their dried food. I know you said rabbits, but maybe its the same food situation with guinea pigs.
"DON'T feed your guinea pig any of the following:
* Potatoes (incuding the plant and the peelings)
* Beans
* Rhubarb
* Houseplants of ANY kind
* Beetroot leaves
* Any part of the tomato plant (except the fruit of course)
* Anything that has been previously frozen."

Its doesn't say why though0 -
makes you wonder how rabbits survive in the winter, and in colder climates than our own, where they will be eating vegetation with frost and snow on it on a regular basis though doesnt it? No one has told the rabbits that like to eat my cabbages and brussels (growing) that they musnt eat them in these conditions!0

my rabbit LOVED fresh sprout peelings! he would get them about three times a year at most though (I'm not a big sprout fan). he lived to 10 years old so it didn't do him any harm.
fresh bunches of parsley were his absolute favourite though...have you tried it with your bunny?0 -
Our house bunny loves sprouts and they've never done him any harm.
He likes to peel them leaf by leaf then have a really good chew on the stalky bit!0
