Hi Greented, I wouldn't be without my hutch cover - even for during the day at the moment. Yesterday it rained really hard all day, but the rabbits still had full access to their run - they sat downstairs in the run watching the rain.

You do have to be careful with the covers though - the see through plastic in front of the door at the front has split and I had to do a home repair on it - this is the door I use most so that flap has had a lot of use but I was still a bit disappointed.

Your rabbit should have a large proportion of hay in it's diet, this is more important than anything. You could try your local farms for half bales - although if you only have one then that might last a while!!

My local scot ads has ads from people who deliver hay so you could try that. Pellets you can get anywhere as they don't need too much so a bag should last a while. The important thing is to establish a good source of hay :D

I use The Hay Experts for hay for my bun. The Oxbow Timothy hay is the best (and of course the most expensive  ).

Remember to feed 80% hay, pellets only not museli mix and fresh veg once the rabbit is old enough to tolerate it.

A visit to the vets is a must for myxi and VHD jabs, plus a course of Panacur. My vets charged £30 for the jabs and a thorough check up and £7 for the Panacur.

Sorry if I am preaching to the knowledgable but rabbits are not the easy pet people think they are. They can get ill (and die) frighteningly easily. If you are a novice join a good rabbit forum. I learnt everything I know from The Rabbits United Forum
  • We get
our bales of hay and very large sawdust from a farm/horse shop just outside Edinburgh. A bale of hay is about £6 and last months and the sawdust is about the same price too. The sawdust is about 25 times the amount you get in the small blocks. I just went to my local horse riding stables and found where they purchased teir products from as if they are for a horse thay have to be top notch!
  • I buy mine from Pets At Home. I found online purchases weren't worth it...the cost of postage is high.

I buy Excel (the dark green bag) in the large 10kg(?) bags which costs about £10 - 13 depending if its on offer ( I store it in a huge bucket thing). Or sometimes the smaller 2.5kg bags when they are 3 for 2.

I think hay is cheaper from a farm, but the petrol costs negate this for me.

Have you got a jolleys near you? They tend to do various rabbit foods and hay there?

If you have a car (which sadly I don't) farms and horse suppliers are the best places to get hay and bedding. look out for Megazorb, as well as Ecopetbed.

I don't use wood shavings, as many of us believe they are bad for small animals respiratory systems. But Ecopetbed is fantastic and lasts absolutely ages. It's small squares of chopped cardboard. you can get a huge bale delivered for under £13 from http://www.gjwtitmuss.co.uk/HORSE-BEDDING/pid3562/cid358/ECOBED-CARDBOARD-BEDDING-22-KG.asp

One bunny only needs a couple of desert spoons of pellets a day (and can eat twice it's body weight in hay), so I just buy pellets loose from my local pet shop, but there are lots of choices online too, you could even get them delivered along with your Ecopetbed: http://www.gjwtitmuss.co.uk/RABBIT-PELLETS/pid2113/cid749/BURGESS-SUPA-RABBIT-EXCEL-2KG.asp I used to use these pellets and my bunny loved them.

(they do have hay too) Meadow Hay http://www.gjwtitmuss.co.uk/SMALL-ANIMAL-FORAGE/pid2314/cid393/2KG-SUPREME-NATURAL-MEADOW-HAY.asp
    Timothy Hay with herbs http://www.gjwtitmuss.co.uk/SMALL-ANIMAL-FORAGE/pid2192/cid393/BURGESS-EXCEL-HERBAGE-1KG.asp
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

I like the sound of the Timothy hay with herbs. At the moment I am adding dried dandelion.

Unfortunately my local Jolleys is very poorly stocked for rabbits. They only have one type of cheap hay. When I asked an assistant if they had Timothy hay he simply looked confused.

Jolleys are good for vastly overpriced and (allegedly) badly bred, sickly pets such as kittens, puppies, rabbits etc (£400 for a moggy anyone?)

I've never been to a Jolley's selling animals as I didn't realise they sold them otherwise I would have never suggested them.

I only use the one I mentioned if I'm in the area, but I do tend to get my supplies from a local horse feed supplier which does not sell animals (obviously I don't feed my rabbits horse feed lol).
