  • We recently used petpals https://www.petpals.com to cat sit whilst we were away on holiday. The local lady was very flexible. The prices were reasonable & she didn't rush us for payment. In fact she collected it when she dropped the keys back in a good two weeks after we got back from holiday. All in all a very good service.

    Hi All

I am just about to buy a rabbit hutch cover, and the man I spoke to in the pet shop said they were pretty useless!! I thought they would be a really good way of keeping the wind and rain out and still allowing my little boy to play out in his run (under his hutch). Does anyone else feel the same or do you find the cover makes a difference?

This is the one I am going to get http://www.dabners.co.uk/product-5428-trixie-cover-for-hutch-62332-186-x-76-x-141-cm.html, but I can only find it at dabners. In true MSE style I always shop around, and it is really bugging me that I can't compare prices anywhere.

    Thanks

    Claire :)

Funnily enough I just got Max his hutch cover tis week. Previous to that it was a poly sheet that I had bought from B&Q!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

I think it is fab and has been a godsend with this awful weather we are having. The front part is completely clear so they can see out but are protected from the driving rain and whipping wind. Plus, as the whole hutch is covered all day, it's protecting the wood on the hutch.

My only complaint is that my hutch is 45 inches long and the closest I could get was 48 inches so it's not completely hugging the hutch but am going to buy some sticky backed velcro and fiddle around with it.

At night we put Max's curtain down (the one's you buy in the pet shop with the bunny in field scene!!) and then zip down his cover and I reckon he must be nice and toasty!!

The poly sheet I had used to rustle about in the wind something rotten and it annoyed me so it must have annoyed him trying to get a sleep!!!!

Best £30.00 I ever spent for peace of mind that he will be cosy enough especially with the bad weather coming in:D

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Just be aware that if you cover the whole hutch that it can get very hot and stuffy inside, we only use a front cover on our hutch so that the air can get around and inside, also covering a damp hutch with a cover can lead to condensation which will damage the wood on the hutch.....

I agree....Max does get out during the day in his pen (weather permitting which is dubious at the mo!!!) so the hutch has a chance to get plenty fresh air in it and I only put down the front cover if it is really chucking it down. A shower here or there isn't really going to bother him.

The weather here has been so bad though...winds and rain like you wouldn't believe:(

very expensive our way and in the end we picked up the blue thick plastic sheets that builders or gardners use. We cover JOEY in the evenings and rain. Much, much cheaper than Pets at home or The Range. Definately recommend

What do you do when it rains during the day then?

I used to have a poly sheet too but it was clear so that the rabbit could see out if the cover had to be put over when it rains. And it got ripped. So the fiver that I spent on that was really a waste of money as it lsted a few months whereas the cover was £25.00 and should see me through a good few winters.
  • I always had rabbits until a couple of years ago, and I always used a proper tarpaulin to keep my rabbit dry and comfortable through the winter, and breathable too.
