Thanks all :) It is a lovely feeling to be in the teens! :) x We are predicted to get sub 15k in Feb, but I'm going to put DH's tax rebate n as an OP so that will come forward and we'll hopefully be there before the end of the year :) With that an some extra OPs this month from fleabay and a nearly new sale, I think we'll then be on target to meet our date of Dec 2015, even without increasing OPs in January - which is good, as that money's now earmarked for DH's new car!!!! :D:D:D

Food spends: Slightly over in Oct @ £318.59, with household spends £15.15 and Takeaway £38.19.

Am setting food spend budget for OCT of max £275. Have already spent £66.80!! (and £7.50 household spends) Hmm.......

My mum knows. MY best friend knows - she's MF from an inheritance (Both her parents are dead) Have mentioned OPing to a few other friends but not massively so. I have friends my age and a lot of friends 10-12 years younger (comes of having children with a large age spread - my younger friends have children the same age as my youngest two) The younger ones wouldn't really get it in some ways - they're relative newcomers to the housing market in that they'd've bought later than DH and I (21 when we bought our first house) so it possibly seems a long way off for them - that and our house is considerably bigger than all of theirs (a combination of being on the housing ladder longer and having twice as many children as them so more space is a necessity!!:rotfl:) means that it's not something I'd talk about with the younger crowd. The older crowd, probably - if it came up (I wouldn't bring it up) - we're generally all more settled with husbands in more senior/ better paid roles (although most of the wives either don't work or have only relatively recently returned to work in a part time, admin role - sounds very old fashioned!!)

I mentioned our aim to my sister in passing a couple of times - but as she and her other half rent it's not something I'd push with them.

I wouldn't want to be seen as 'lucky' - when it's not luck - it's hard work and some sacrifice on other spending!:D

    Cheeky OP made yesterday afternoon:T

Because I'm feeling quite fired up, have also shoved a load of stuff on ebay in the last week. Not expecting much to sell, but it's all movement in the right direction - out and down!! :rotfl: (unlike my weight!:rotfl:)

Hope you all have a lovely weekend! Miserable weather here

    xx

Congratulations on getting to the final hurdle!!! Proof once again that it can be done.

Yes, I get the whole thing about discussing it with people. Some of my younger acquaintances are surprised when they find out we own rather than rent as they are more likely to be unable to buy now.
My mom, however got so interested that I demonstrated by spreadsheet and she now intends to nearly pay hers off when she comes out of her current term. She recently bought a house with a relatively small mortgage anyway but intends to get it paid asap. We do have friends who are mortgage free for various reasons....overpaying, inheritance. Makes me more keen to get rid of ours as they now have money to spend on holidays and enjoying themselves! This will be you and GG soon enough! Keep going xxx

Hi greent , thanks for the reply :) I just find it so interesting what other people do :o I am much the same as you, best friend and parents sort of know but that's about it. (Parents have a mortgage many times bigger than they did when they bought their house 33 yrs ago!)

I think people often do assume it's luck that you are paying it off quicker, I think it's hard to explain some of the unusual lengths we sometimes go to, to make it happen :rotfl:

    Have a great weekend.

I know. I try to plan what I'll say to people. Current one to work colleague is 'Lucky? As in lucky I didn't accidentally fall into the shoe shop/hairdressers/beautician/nail bar every weekend? Yup, suppose I was really :D'

GG - did all those shoes walk into the house by themselves? :)

gt - fabulous progress and, with the bit between your teeth and the impending "freedom" you'll better Dec 15. DH's "new car" could be in jeopardy methinks :D
