Great news re the job, tootalullah!:T:T

Still haven't had the motivation to do ebay listing :( but did sell our old dining chairs on facebook, so have OPd that money :) DH has also finally sold his remaining shares from when he worked for a bank, so that has released a few £ (sadly they are not worth anything like they used to be since the banking crisis) which will be used as an OP, to help fund the new car and also to clear his CC.

Talking of his new car, he finally picked it up today and is a right big kid. My car died the morning we bought it (some engine fault) so (as we bought the new car) the garage recovered my car and I have a courtesy car of a brand new (had 20 miles on) one - our drive looks very extravagant right now!! Mine is unlikely to be repaired until the end of this week at the earliest - but I don't mind because I have the courtesy one ;) Although I'm NOT looking forward to the repair bill.......:(

Food spends..... currently total £281.99 so very tight for rest of month but may just about be doable if I only buy the absolute necessities at the weekend. Will also aim for £300 for Oct, just to try and ensure foodstuffs are being used up in a timely manner :) That figure isn't sustainable in the long term but should be fine for Oct as we are away at the very end (half term) Household spends are a very respectable £15.15 - binbags, loo rolls, 1 cleaning item, a new ironing board cover and handwash. Again, not a long term achievable spend, as we currently have stocks of washing powder, washing up liquid etc. Takeaway spends are a disappointing £38.19 (for which DH is responsible for more than half!) - although this is somewhat lower than our recent usual spends - we've slipped back into bad habits:o

Weather here has still been warm and dry enough that all washing has still been line dried:T

Have reviewed my present stash and compiled a spreadsheet for birthdays from now until Jan and Xmas - it's not too bad, with the main people being left this household and our parents (ie: the expensive ones!!:p) Have two sorts of chutney to go in presents and also have some elderberry vodka maturing (suspect I'll keep all of that though!:p) and also some crème de mures on the go - I'll certainly be gifting some of that as I've got over 2L of it!!:D:D Am debating what to do with the boozy blackberries and elderberries - am thinking some sort of boozy compote for my consumption with some other fruits thrown in! :D

Roll on payday at month end - I want to do the money shuffle!

    Hi GreenT!

Well it sounds like you've done brilliantly with that grocery challenge, well done for keeping it down! Having the garden really does help doesn't it, we'd be pretty hungry without our homegrown bits at the moment and it's certainly helped us keep to our challenge figure too!

( to CathT ... our leeks have been fine in a raised bed - half of it leeks, half of it garlic. Took some time to get going but now they've all gone great guns, so I'd definitely recommend it if you have a spare bed.)

Mortgage and MOPs is looking healthy in that signature too GT, just think, this time next year it won't just be Christmas you're counting down to!

Watching your selling progress on FB with interest. Have been considering this instead of Fleabay as the cba in that direction must be catching :rotfl:. However, there are tumble weeds blowing around my local FB selling page so I'm not so sure how successful it will be. I guess I don't know until I try so maybe I'll give it a go soon. I think it doesn't help that Mr Hbbb's not keen on all comers turning up to collect things ... mainly in case they turn out to be some of the worst of year 10 or their parents!

Christmas preps are impressive there too, have started in a low key way but you're right, a proper list seems to be the way forwards!

Happy weekend to you and yours! x

Thanks Habi, that's useful to know. Have finally caught up with your diary too :)

Oh - it's not a drool-able sexy car in any way!:rotfl: It's a VW Sharan (grim name!) 2.0TDi Blue Motion - we need a big car to fit us all in!! The no-touch handbrake is pretty smart though!

I don't feel organised! :( I also have DD's 17th 2 weeks before Xmas and DS2's 9th bday 2 weeks after! (Lack of planning there, can you tell?! :p:rotfl:)

Thanks Hbbb! Grocery spends are still under budget - just! Need milk, bread, ham, bananas and juice as a must this weekend. Will try and hang off the rest until Weds if I possibly can! Puddings and bakes consist of 'what can I make with pears/ blackberries/ apples/ combination thereof' at the mo! :) (I have soooooo many pears - I'm literally giving them away by the carrier bag full at the mo - along with runner beans and my solitary pumpkin) Growing stuff definitely helps - but so does some swapping! :) My neighbour has a lovely apple tree and my mum keeps bringing me tomatoes :)

Fbook vs ebay selling - both have pros and cons, for sure. Fbook seems to be more instant, but our local selling groups are massively busy, so if you don't time your post just right you can potentially miss buyers. I don't care about randoms turning up here, I must admit - I used to freecycle lots of stiff, so was always having strangers arrive :)

I'd not thought about next year yet - it's quite exciting to think of the countdown (hopefully!) for next December!!:j Fingers crossed!

On that note, we finally had our tax returns sent back to us by the accountant today - Mr Gt is due a tax rebate of over £3K:j:j. The accountant did query whether any Job Centre staff had arranged a refund for him already - I said that he wasn't lucky enough to have come across a member of staff that helpful! (that's not a slur on all JC staff, btw - am sure some are perfectly lovely) My refund due is a mere 4p!!:rotfl: I shall try not to get too excited!!! :rotfl:

There's been a horrible sicky bug here - so much so that the smallies' school had to shut for 2 days after more than 25% of pupils called in sick one day (along with a high number of staff too!) DS3 got it first and then DS2 today - and DS1 really quite bad :( Lots of washing, wiping and mopping involved!! :( DD has luckily escaped it so far and only has a heavy cold which she's been struggling with. I'm going stir crazy after being at home non stop (without even a school run) for 3 days!! DH is also out tonight on a works leaving do, so I've been dealing with 3 poorly boys (DS3 is still not right - v irritable and whingey and tired) and I must admit my patience is wearing very thin. They are all asleep at the mo and I'm hoping they stay that way for the night (or most of it at least - I've had disturbed nights Tues/ Weds and Thurs so far)

Moan over - I do hope they get better soon - I don't like any of my babies being unwell and poor DS1 is really quite bad (his stomach is his 'weak' area)

Looking forward to doing the money shuffle next week :) Roll on a new month! :)

Still haven't sorted out anything for DH's bday -in 2 weeks!! argh!!:eek:
    xx

Whoop! We've hit two milestones this month - total monthly interest is below £50 for the month for the first time ever! And.... We're below 20K!!!!:j:j:j

(We hit another one next month, too - daily interest below £1.50 - but that's not as exciting as sub 20k!)

    Under 20 K....hurrah!!! well done :)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
  • Hey greent,
