Evening all
Well, the day started out differently to plans - had a phone call at 7.30am to say my mum had been admitted to hospital after passing out several times and vomiting after eating out last night - eyes rolling etc - with no recollection of it. Call to hospital - she was on acute ward. Another hour before I got through to them - she was feeling better than last night (not much info there!) and they'd phone after consultant's rounds. Mum texted me at 11ish - no update. Again at 12.30 to say she was going home - they didn't know what it was but she has to go for allergy tests. Anyway, she's home and tired so will speak to her tomorrow and see how she is then
Went and bought wallpaper and more paint whilst waiting for news - we actually managed to get all of the wallpapering done today! Finished it just gone 6pm tonightDH has painted the uplighters and decorative grill for the airbrick whilst I've been at WI cttee tonight. He has rehung mirror and I've brought down some purple and gold candles for the mantel
Lovely courgette and tomato soup for lunch with the last of the grain/ seedy loaf from Sat - more soup left for tomorrow - have weighed out more flour/ seeds ready for tomorrow morning - finished another 2 random bags of granary and wholemeal flourHave also promised the children millionaires shortbread and rocky road (have a tin and a half of condensed milk hanging around to use up)
Should have another £10 op from ebay tomorrow if they payI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -

Here's the post I did on the soup a few years back:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=36804504&postcount=966
I don't follow the recipe as such - I just throw in grated courgettes, tinned/ fresh tomatoes, stock, garlic, chilli, onion (nuked in micro in water to soften - throw onion and water in), maybe some passata and or puree and a couple of chopped basil leaves in whatever amounts I have to hand and adjust until it tastes and looks good!x

Mum appears to be ok today - spent ages chatting to her on phone earlier
She's taking it easy for a few days, though, as she's very tired and achy

Woo hoo! £5 OP made today from cashback turned into Tesco CC points - definitely a case of slowly slowly catchy monkey at the mo!!
Having dropped DD last month by £500 OP it's had a knock on on our end date (of course!) from 12/15 t0 02/17 (just) - am hoping to catch it up when DH gets a jobHe noticed me fiddling with the mtge s/sheet earlier and saw I'd reduced the DD - was then v glum about it - however, I'm not sure where he's expecting me to be replacing his income from and carrying on totally as normal!!!! As it is I've been raiding savings quite a bit - no salary since May = 4 pay days which haven't happened - that's a lot of dosh!!!
Still, providing he gets some work relatively soon we can catch up no problem
- and there are plenty of people far, far worse off than us
x
Made some outrageously sinful rocky road type stuff yesterday - soooo sweet - kids love it! Today's baking was some cherry and walnut flapjacks made with muscovado sugar - very yummyStill need to make the millionarires shortbread I've promised them, though
Off to Wi tonight - we've got a fundraising fashion show - I'm modelling!!I'm the youngest member of our WI. Last time we had one of these (about 2 years ago) I shocked the other models and helpers by turning up in hot pink silk underwear, fishnet stockings and taking along a selection of shoes which included 5" red patent stilettos!
They're used to seeing me in jeans, trainers and jumpers/ tshirts - so were surprised that I can do glam/ girly after all!
Tonight's shoe selection will include my Iron Fist shoes with skulls and studs on.......

Hi Greent, you made me laugh out loud when I read about shocking pink underwear and the WI - somehow Victoria sponge cakes don't go hand in hand with killer stiletto heels :rotfl::rotfl:
Hope the studded shoes go down well tonight :rotfl:

Hi SmlSave - millionaires shortbread is fiddly but not that hard - it's shortbread, then covered with caramel sauce (you can buy ready made such as Dulce du Leche - or make it with condensed milk - which is what I did as I had a tin hanging around) and then cover that with melted chocolate (add some double cream to it if you have any for added shine!)
lol Tilly! The shoes all went down well, but the studded ones got gasps and murmurs of 'wow!' when I walked out - people were pointing and talking about them so much that I actually pointed out they were meant to be looking at the clothes, not my shoes!I had heaps of compliments after the show, which was lovely. I was very good, though, and didn't buy anything, and even got given a plate of cakes to bring home:T
I've been absent from my diary (although reading others) as I'm struggling. DH is REALLY struggling and it's impacting, needless to say, on all of usI wrote a long post last night and lost it and haven't the energy to do it again.
I've reduced our standard OP again, bringing our end date to 03/18, which I don't like. The rational part of me knows that when I put the OP back up the end date will come back down again, and that I can hopefully catch up on our 'missed' OPs , but I don't like it!!:o
Other news - DS3 is loving school and has started early stage reading successfully - yeay:T DS1 came back yesterday morning (5.30am) from a trip to Cologne - I think he had a good time! DD is off to Berlin during half term - am envious of her trip - looks interesting. She and DH went to London yesterday to watch the recording of a radio play at RADA - free tickets from BBC. They got back at 12.30.
Currently it's only myself and DS3 awake & up - I should rectify that, really
Sorry for the downbeat post - I promise to give myself a good kick up the proverbial and be more positive next time!:pI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Hi Greent, I've just found your diary so am stopping by to say hi:hello:
I love the sound of your WI, have you got many younger get members at yours? There's one in our village but we have a very high elderly population so I don't think I'll be joining for a while yet. I'd love to eventually though
I hope things work out for your dh soon..fingers are crossed for you.
