We're quite similar with clothes that get handed down. The difficult bit in this is that until a friend had twins after years of IVF etc.. we've always been the 'youngest'. So just as we get on top of clothing, inevitably a relative also does the same and drops their stuff at our house! So its a constant stream of me being the one who eventually sorts for charity. Eternally grateful but it does increase our stuff!MFW: Was: £136,000.......Now: £47,736.58......7

Thankfully we are at the top of the hand me down chain so don't get bags of stuff - its just stuff my boys pass down from one to the next and then I pass stuff on to others if still OK:)I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £206

I was the youngest and never enjoyed being at the end of the line. It was a shock to get something new actually purchased for me. Now I look back and I am just grateful I had clothes to wear! What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Lol - our boys do get the opportunity to decline their brothers clothes - they do have differing tastes/ styles (and body shapes)
And the only footwear passed down is walking boots, as they are hardly worn before being outgrown. (Oh - and DS3 has a pair of flip flops from DS2 for this summer - DS2 declared flip flops uncomfortable after wearing them for about 5 min in the house and then his feet grew 2 full sizes in 3 months!! - so they are unworn)
Some life admin done- written to close 2 CC accounts - 1 of which was Debnums- as they no longer do reward vouchers i am not interested in the card - will stick to my MnS (main one and currently £28 in cr) and Tesc0 ones (used for fuel) Also have some empty/ dormant bank accounts to close - sadly these will also involve letters - i like Ll0yds as it's easy to close accounts online but not so with these other 2 banksBit of streamlining going on ahead of the next tax year

so I've managed to close 2/3 bank accounts so far - am hopeful the 3rd will be sorted this coming week
also hoping I will get confirmation of the 2 closed credit card accounts as well
Decluttering is going very slowly - suspect several reasons are behind this - the children don't get through as much 'stuff' as when they are smaller, we've had a good few pushes on it in general the past 2 or 3 years, everyone is at home all day, every day so I am limited in the amount of disturbance I can make/ time I can solely dedicate to it in 1 slot. However, as we also have very little coming in (um - that would be nothing other than food and some replacement toiletries so far - but I do need to get DS3 some new joggers if I can find any suitable in smkt sometime) then anything going out is still progress
Woke up to a light dusting of snow here this morning. Hearing the joy in his voice and seeing the wonder still on DS3's face when he saw it was fab - he may be 12 ina fee months, but snow is still exciting to him, which is lovely (tbh, I look at it on day 1 and love the fresh, clean, brightness of it all - and it's even better when you don't need to go anywhere!) We had possibly thought about going for a long walk up the beacon (would need to drive there - only about 4miles away, so still 'local' - DH is desperate for a proper walk that isn't along the canal path - he is struggling with being in all day every day - its dark when he finishes work so the only option then is a quick trip around the streets) but the snow is much worse in the rest of the county and I don't see the point in unnecessary journeys in snow even without c0vid.

Thanks for explaining the switchboard replacement greent, it's so good to learn these things!
Love that DS3 is so excited about the snow, what a sweetie.
Well done on the stream lining, it's so easy to get bank-bloated. It's hard work to keep up with a lot of accounts, especially when they don't give the benefits they used to.8 -
"Bank-bloated" - love it 🤣!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
Cleared 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️!!! In 5 years, 1 month and 29 days
Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed
Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!7 -
I've just initiated a couple more streaming of account items, too
- DH opened passbook savings accounts for his new niece and my baby cousin many years ago whilst working in the bank branch network. His niece is now almost 27 and my 'baby' cousin is 30 this year, with a baby of her own! These accounts haven't been touched since 1996 (I have the passbooks in front of me) so I've just started the process online of finding them, as they disappeared off our connected accounts many, many years ago and will have been marked as dormant a long time ago. Should hopefully be *relatively* simple, as I have the account sort codes and numbers and passbooks and we still hold an account with that financial institution. Assuming the money is paid to us (the accounts were DH 're' the small children) I would suggest we split the one lot of money between his niece and her brother (who never had an account opened for him) and perhaps buy my cousin's baby some premium bonds with the other - neither child (as was) knew about the account and we are not talking great sums of money (maybe £100 in each at best, would be my guess) If the bank wants to pay it to the now grown children then that is a little more complicated (address, ID, change of name on marriage etc) - we just now need to wait and see
(Am chuffed at starting the process - this is an item on my 2021 goals list - carried forward from 2020
)
Snow here has all melted - not so elsewhere in the county - we are, however, in a sheltered, low lying and wet area, so never get it bad. It is a lazy day here at greent hq - the 3 boys are all playing some online game together on their laptops in the dining room, DH is on the sofa watching football (?), DD reading in her room and I'm sat in the kitchen catching up on mse whilst waiting for some choc chip muffins to come out of the oven (It's a muffin and hot choc kinda day, I feel)
