Thank you to everyone for their congratulations :):) xx
    Well done Mr greent!

    Is he far, far away?

    How long is it for

Berkshire - just too far to commute (around 2.5-3 hours each way) Not massively far away (better than when he did a stint in Newcastle! :D)

It's for 6 months - finishes as the children break up from school for the summer - rather fab timing! :T

Great news on the contract, look at the positives - you get control of the remote? Less food needed during the week?

Haha! I don't watch much tv, tbh - usually only when I'm ironing and then it's usually catch up stuff, so not a big issue :) And there will be less food needed here - but he will still need to buy some there - horses for courses overall :)
Hello! Congrats on the contract, hope the mid weeks don't get too complicated for you as a result. Good tip on using zeek to buy your sofas, I must remember that site, not used it before.

With the washing machine I would definitely call John Lewis and say it is clearly not fit for purpose (which breaks the trade descriptions act). If you google there are template letters for this. It comes down to a reasonable expectation of how long a product should last, and 4 breakdowns in 2 years is unreasonable and suggests a faulty product was sold. Your contract is with the vendor, not the manufacturer. HTH.

Yep - I will get onto JLewis, thanks. :) Latest view from engineer is that it's not designed to cope with the washing for a family of 6!!!!!:cool::rotfl:

Congratulations on the contract! I can see what you mean about the length of time looking for one - life will change a bit, for a while I should imagine - have you got skype set up and all that?

Yep - have skype but don't tend to bother much unless the kids have something they really want to show him. He also tends to call whilst I'm in the middle of half a dozen things at once, 'cos he's bored! :D:p - he can skype DD in that case! :D

    BRILLIANT news :D :j

I am sure you will cope just beautifully ;)

    x

Ha! I shall be doing a fantastic impression of a headless chicken for a few weeks whilst I get into some sort of routine (complicated by needing to leave for work for 2 weeks at 8am and not being able to drop children off at school until 8.40am.... trying to find some temp breakfast childcare!) and then we will have the calm of half term for a week - and then I'll have forgotten the routine! :rotfl:
It will all be ok when I'm in the swing of it - but it does entail a lot of alarms being set on my phone to pick children up at different times, take them to places etc - so easy to get caught up doing something and miss the time. I will also need to prep lunches the night before (I'm a do it in the morning person) on the days when I'm at work as I just won't have time (my alarm is already at 6.10 - I refuse to have it any earlier! :p) The *worst*bit is that DS1 and DS2 both have activities on Tues evenings - DS2 has Scouts ending at 9pm (ish) and DS2 army cadets ending at 9.15-9.25. This means I'll need to keep DS3 up late on Tues evenings (he usually goes to bed at 7.45) as he'll need to come along for the ride - I'll get him ready for bed (warm onesies!) and take him as soon as we get home but it's a late night for him :(:( I've always managed to work around things like that before as both the bigger children have been here - now DD is at uni that doesn't work as well. Still - it'll work (and DS3 might even sleep in a bit later on a Weds morning as a result! ;))

Great news on the contract....do they pay his expenses whilst away? (Thinking of savings to the household budget :rotfl:)

Haha! Sadly not this contract - some do, some don't - but less and less seem to - budgets are getting cut back hard for contractors. It's *ok* money, though - and it all goes through OH's limited co, so the rate they pay has VAT added and then his co pay living expenses (monthly rent for a Mon-Fri let likely to be c. £650-700 per month) and his travel mileage @ 45p/ mile - so the household budget will improve slightly ;)

So.... today I am extremely grateful to my MFW diary! My iron went 'pop' and 'hissssssss' last night and started spewing water over the floor - something in it has burst. As we only bought it last year I looked for the receipt in the appropriate file - found instruction manual but no receipt attached - most unusual :( Was convinced I'd bought it in Tesc0 (remember looking at the model in there and checking the feel and weight) so checked bank statements for likely amounts around the appropriate time - no go :(:( Was semi-resigned to forking out for another one (c. £150) when I thought I'd check my diary as I had a vague memory of moaning about the previous one and the service from Tefa1 - diary came up trumps with the date I'd bought it and where from (Amaz0n - hence no till receipt/ bank card transaction(I'd bought it with Amaz0n vouchers from cashback)) - straight onto Ama acct, contacted manufacturer who confirmed it was likely to be a burst pipe and gave me the appropriate no for Amaz0n - person at the other end ordered me a replacement straight off (offered me a refund, but I quite like the iron) and it's already on its way - arriving tomorrow:T:j

    Result with iron! And diary!
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!
  • Brilliant news about the contract. You are so organised I'm sure it will be fine although I'm guessing will take a little while to bed in.

    Great post to read.

  • Good to hear of Mr greent's contract. I've read your diary last year but was to 'green' to comment. But a fab read and nice to add further positives.

And great news on the iron too

Oh, I was so glad - I really couldn't remember that I'd ordered it from Amaz0n! :) New iron arrived yesterday lunchtime and has already been put to use for around 3 hours :)

OH went off to Maidenhead today - will be back Fri evening. He is checking out a Mon-Fri let tonight which looks good on the website - fingers crossed it looks the same in real life! :D He went off in a suit and tie (as you do) with an outfit for the possibility of casual Friday (his interview was on a Fri and he said most people were casual) - only to find that every day in this office is a dress down day - would perhaps have been nice to have been told that before! He's now going to wear his planned Fri outfit tomorrow and a more casual outfit on Fri (ie: a tshirt with a Weird Fish macaroni top/ jumper thing over) (not having any other options with him)

No other news here, I guess - have put another unused cookery book in the CS bag (currently standing at half a black-bag full) (that makes 4 this month - all new and unused (and I don't think I even looked through them when I bought them.....:o:o) - I ignored cookery books when I KM'd my books last year (or maybe even the year before) - I wanted to keep them all (well, I think I got rid of maybe 2) Now I am looking at them in a different way - and they need to earn their space or go! (Gone so far are 1 x River Caf!, 1 x Ainsley and 2 x Hairy Bikers) Have also been pricing up children's items outgrown/ no longer wanted for the next nearly new sale late Feb. I guess that counts as money-making news :D Ooh - and I sent a small box of books and DVDs to Ziffit (only £10 worth) I also found 2 things to list on fleabay - 1 already has a bid :T Only small amounts here and there, but it adds up over the year :)

Am bushed tonight - once I've got the smallest 2 to bed (and asleep) I think I'll follow suit - no point waiting for DS1 - he's bound to be awake much later than me nowadays! :rotfl:
