What will she read at Cardiff?
Loathe school shoe shopping too but our Clerks has put an extra TEN staff on to cope.
Thank youShe's doing Eng Lang & Lit - I can't remember whether Cardiff's is a combined or joint honours. She has always been a complete book-a-holic but her main passion is the language side

Thank youShe's already signing up to freshers' events - I don't want to know how much alcohol will be involved! Her set of hall is also (apparently) the party halls.....

I have twin three year olds and bought one of the clarks foot measuring devices from the shop for a few pounds. I measure their feet at home and order online. Job done
Not possible with mine. 3 out of my 4 have awkward feet - even when measured by staff the shoes won't necessarily fit and I usually need 2 fitters to check at least one of them, just to make sure. Today DS2 had to try on 7 different pairs of trainers (same size) until they found one pair which they were just-about satisfied with the fit on. He's got narrow feet (4D (just)) with big toes where the joints don't touch because the toes curl in so much towards the second toe (genetic trait - 2 of my 4 children have it, I have it, as does my mum, my nan etc - nothing to do with poor footwear, just genes) so the width across the toes and length can be an issue. His heels are also narrow so shoes are prone to slipping off (he wore little boots until he was about 4/5 because of this and he has a shallow foot height. Today a trained fitter (and a colleague at times) took 50 minutes to find both a pair of shoes and a pair of trainers which would fit him - I am not risking get it wrong - feet are too important.
DD has narrow feet, high arches and longer than you would expect toes (meaning slip ons don't tend to sit right). DS1 has wide feet (H) and his feet are especially wide across the toes - if you cut his little toes off his feet would look normal size wiseWe refer to his feet as mole feet
Bill wasn't too bad as DS3's trainers were in the sale - cost me £125 for 2 x school shoes and 2 x trainers. Just DS1 to do now (and although he's 16 I will still get his school shoes fitted, for the reasons above)I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
School shoe shopping.... Twenty years on the words still give me a headache......Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
I *did* enjoy the gardening, Kc - I cut down lots of Virginia Creeper where it was growing over the fences from two different neighbouring gardens, pulled up some weeds, chopped down some others and sprayed the shorter versions with weedkiller and also did some selective spraying of weeds in the front garden and where they've come through slabs in the back patio and paths. I found a huge flying ants nest along one of the paths in the front garden so powdered that and then ran powder along the bottom of the front of the house as they like there usually, so thought I'd do that as a preventative measure
My plan was to burn the dead weeds out from the patio slabs this weekend with the weed wand, but it is raining cats and dogs here today.
On a more important note - DD got into Cardiff uni:j:j:j:j:j - her first choice - we are sooooooo pleased for her!Secret_Saving_Squirrel wrote: »School shoe shopping.... Twenty years on the words still give me a headache......

Don't worry, the initial bout of partying only lasts as long as it takes to catch freshers flu...
I hope so! I was clearly a weirdo and satisfied with half a pint of lager once a week at the local pub when I wentBrilliant news on DD - congratulations to her :T. It's a time of mixed emotions as you are so pleased for them, but also know how much you will miss them!
Definitely!!
Have been awake since 5.30, so gave up at 6 and got up. A rainy day here - I have washing which needs drying and which can't be tumbledMy head is full of lists about things to get for DD at uni (bedding, crockery etc) and things which I need to do anyway (tax returns, list a whole load of stuff on flebay, tidy small people's rooms, ironing etc) I would be ironing now but I can't find anything to watch on tv/ catch up to accompany me!
Reasonably short shopping list for smkt today - I still may need to visit 2 (opposite each other) to ensure best deals though. It's too early to make dough yet (will wake small ones) so am killing time on here.I'm also awaiting a delivery from M&S online (school socks, bath mat, new baby gift) at some point today. It looks as though the rain is 'in' for the day, so it may be a day of trying on school uniform and tidying up!
Hope the weather is better for anyone reading this! xI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Congratulations to your dd :jj
I haven't even thought about getting my two ready for back to school, have worked so much these holidays but off next week to sort it. Don't think we need new uniforms as bought generous sizes last year.
Pouring with rain here too so I plan some productive admin tasks and decluttering! We shall see how much I get done.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Rained most of the day here but is currently dry(ish) and blowy, so I have a small amount of washing on the line. Have to admit anything which could be tumbled has gone into the dryer....
Did Azda and Tesc0 shopping this morning - also bought DS2 new boxers and DS3 trainer socks. Found a small gift towards Xmas for one of them tooNabbed some YS 5% mince and mushrooms - both of which were on my list
Bought 6 bottles of wine which were already on offer and then got a further 25% off as I bought 6 - result!
Will last me probably until Xmas and I will also use one towards bestie's bday pressie this week.
Tidied airing cupboard, pairing up the odd socks (they get thrown in the bottom and paired off every month or so and long term odd ones binned (unless part of a all-same-multipack, such as school socks)) Got rid of some more sofa covers lurking in there (well, pulled them out of cupboard and bagged them up for textile recycling - almost the same!)
Did one bit of (finance related) paper admin - just need to post it off now. Read some of MMM and Escape Artist - and it finally 'clicked' (have always struggled with MMM before) - and now have lots of thoughts buzzing around my head. Finances are changing from next month with DD going away and a new tenant in BTL, so will have to look at budgets/ income/ outgoings. Am a little more motivated to list things on fleabay (may start tonight if I can clear ironing pile first) and get things a bit more back on track. (Have a whole heap of stuff to buy for DD, for starters!) Just wonder if I can persuade OH to read it.....
