That looks pretty clear to me.
Whether I'd have known that, before this became news and when in a car that was accelerating on its own, I'm not so sure.:o0 -
also thats assuming everything on the car is working and not through some fault0

Whenever starting a journey in a Toyota - check that you can switch off the engine, when the car is in motion.0 -
A clue to why the Yanks ( they seem to be the majority that have been involved ) are not the best of drivers;

They have a 10 minute driving test carried out by an Instructor, not an Examiner, is it any wonder they cannot drive safely and apply common sense?0 -

Could be that part of it is because an enormous number of toyotas are sold in the USA and they are almost all autos. It is the autos that are causing the difficulties because even the least knowledgable manual driver would probably work out that declutching was required.
I have to say that is a frighteningly lax examination, though.0 -

Oh look, here's the official Toyota website, which says the same thing:
http://pressroom.toyota.com/pr/tms/toyota-prius-vehicle-throttle-155094.aspx

Yes but if you'd read my post correctly you would have seen I was talking about the similar push button set up Renault use, not Toyota. Maybe this is where Toyota got it wrong. Given the fact that the sticking throttle, be it mechanical or software is the actual issue/fault, having to hold the start stop button down for 3 seconds is maybe too long under those circumstances
Hovever SIL has a brand new Prius, not his choice, I get him to repeat the same.;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

Congrats Inactive, I think thats the most people, the entire population of the USA, that you have dissmissed in a single post:T:T:T
The MD at Toyota admitted they got it wrong, shame you can't, but then again they are Japanese;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Interesting on the blog, Toyota appear to admit the car won't select neutral but don't say why.
quote from the website
"If unable to put the vehicle in Neutral,............."
edit, the offiicial website, in the first link, hints that the engine should be shut off if selecting neutral doesn't stop the car, so another suggestion in that site as well.0 -

I did read your post, including the bit where you ended with this:
"I think Toyota got something very wrong if they decided the engine cannot be stopped on the move"
The engine can be stopped on the move, it's really very simple. I wouldn't expect most drivers to bother reading something so unimportant as the driver's manual, though.0
