Fatality on train route last night - can I reasonably expect a refund for taxi fare?

    This wasnt an accident, this person chose to kill themselves during rush hour. Hardly a human tragedy it was simply a massive inconvenience for hundreds if not thousands of people. What about all those people rushing home from work to see their sick children/families. This person stopped them doing it that day!!
    I commute to London every day and have a very low tolerance threshold for this situation, in the first yr the suicides around xmas made me feel sorry for the people. now i just think, why do they have to affect so many other peoples days!!!
    Oh and my train operator will refund the use of taxis providing you get a receipt and they are not extortionate. i had a £50 one refunded a while back.
    Sorry to be contraversial but if you found yourself in this situation every month your patience would also be tested.
    Good luck with the claim OP. rail vouchers are valid for 12 months so you can use them when your season tickets up for renewal.

    All you can do is try, you waited for information and none was forthcoming so made your own arrangements. if there was no bus service and taxis were all that was available then i think you have a good case for at least some re-imbursement.

    No it's not, but neither was the bad weather in late 2009 / early 2010 and I assume there were ticket refunds etc issued then...?

    I also assume you are being flippant about suing.

    As a Southeastern season ticket holder I wasn't offered any form of compensation for the snow late 2009/early 2010 even though the line I use was very badly affected and I did get one day's compensation for the snow in February 2009. Riddle me that!

    I can tell which line you use (as it is the same useless one I use and I too was caught up in it on Weds evening!), although I'm not sure at which station you were booted off the train. A lot of the stations along that line are very rural and a taxi would have been the only option.

    OP - write to Southeastern, provide taxi receipts and photocopies of your season ticket and photocard and explain the facts. A family member of mine has had trouble before with Southeastern receiving correspondence so it may be worth chasing it up to ensure that they have received it, or send it recorded delivery. Although their experience may well have been down to the postal service rather than Southeastern.

    In the past I have found that Southeastern have been quite generous in regards to forms of compensation.

    I remember a similar situation a good few years back. The TOC involved spent ages arguing with Railtrack (as it was then) over who would shoulder the costs. The Railtrack line was that if the jumper had a ticket, the TOC was liable. The TOC line was that if he had no ticket, Railtrack was at fault for allowing a trespass.

    Purely from a personal viewpoint, I've got bu**er all sympathy for deliberate jumpers. It affects the train crew, the attending emergency service crews, the people who have to mop up the mess, and the travelling public, as well as the family and friends of everyone involved (because it does affect those around you when you see something like that).

    In Scotland suicide is the largest single cause of death for males under 35...so, yes, it is a human tradedy, for all involved.

    To you and like minded souls, hope you're never "inconvenienced" by one of your own loved ones feeling so desperate they take their own life.

    To the OP....Reimbursement???!!

    Like Cyclonebri says, i despair.
