Hi, I'm in Leamington Spa and recently moved to a house with a HUGE garden! The list of jobs to do is endless however I have put my potatoes in and shallots. Onions to go in. Sweet peas are doing well in the greenhouse and planted beetroot and lettuce in garden.

I had potted up carrot, chilli, sweet pepper and toms in greenhouse but nothing as yet :-(. Have noticed a french bean about to sprout though.

It it worth buying seedlings (and cheaper?) if my seeds don't sprout. I'm used to them coming up quickly. Maybe I need to bring them indoors.

    Great thread :-)

:T Hi emma im in leamington spa too!!

are you planning on keeping the carrots in the pot? they should go straight in the ground if not...they hatebeing disturbed....They do take up to 4 weeks to show through the soil, same as chillis, dont lose hope!

I brought a few broccoli seedlings and a few chilli ones too just as a back up, so its completly up to you on that basis!x

  • Hi Lucy, whereabouts are you in Leam? I'm in Whitnash.

Interesting about the carrots, I'll put a few straight in the ground then see if that works. Ah that's why there's nowt appeared if it takes that long, I just haven't got any patience lol

Pots are starting to show though which is exciting :-)

Think I'll get some seedlings on Thurs as back-up!! Peppers haven't done anything so I think I've killed them!!

I've run out of room in my little plastic greenhouse, but wanted to start some cut and come again salads in a pot. Do you think it would be ok to start these outside now (my yard is fairly sheltered) or should I wait a bit longer?

I'd say give it a go but cover them over with horticultural fleece to keep off any radiation frosts. Apparently, the weather is turning cold again this week...

Not necessarily. I buy the bush variety which are fairly compact. Otherwise I think that if you leave them to it, they grow along the ground like marrows, but I have seen ones that you can train to grow up something if you're limited for space.

Me too - but the weather forecast say no! And my window cleaner who has an allotment says I put my first earlies out too early because of the frost. I thought the name "early" was a bit of a clue, but maybe not.
