DH spent quite a time on the phone today with Santander:

-all the direct debits for changeover week failed & when they tried again the banking systems would not let them...hands up all those who think they should have known this already? they are an enormous bank after all!

    - their system automatically triggered the arrears letters even though it was inappropriate...hands up all those who think they could have stopped the letters/ sent an appropriate message?

    - their call staff are now inundated with angry/upset/confused customers ... anyone else think they should have seen that coming?

    - DH had to make payment manually for March & was told that April payment should go out OK but was asked to check that it had ... anyone else got their fingers crossed?

    - DH was assured that credit rating etc etc has not been damaged ... do you believe them?

  • I had a similar problem. I had a letter from Santander telling me that my account was in arrears and to call them to pay over the phone. After spending the best part of half an hour on the phone and getting no where I left it and called again today.

There was a technical glitch with the transfer from cahoot to santander as others have mentioned above. After finally resolving the issue I asked to be put through to the compaints dept. and I have now had the costs of the calls refunded (about £3ish) and £25 for my inconvenience.

Well I received a letter from Santander that I thought would be the resolution as to why they took an additional DD from my account, it wasn't, it was to confirm a conversation I had with Cahoot in July last year regarding non collection of my DD that month (I had changed the DD over to a different bank account and they didn't collect the payment so putting my account into arrears) and what they advised me to do at the time.

I have no idea why they have sent me this letter now when it has nothing to do with my complaint!

Looks like I will probably have to write to them as I don't get anywhere trying to phone them.

It will be interesting to see what happens when my DD is due later this month.

This bank just gets worse every day. I canceled my DD a year ago and have been paying by SO until the transfer to Santander.
They advised me to set up a Direct Debit this month, but I chose not to, as nothing was in writing as to how much they would take and I didn't hold out for any paper statement arriving.

I am so glad I didn't keep (or set) up a DD with them now, but am wondering whether the payment I made over the phone got through or whether its lost in the payments ether at Santander.

I can see many posters here are new to the forum and I assume have signed up to vent their anger or seek help with the problems that Cahoot and Santander have caused. I wonder just how many others have had a bad experience but have not found this forum yet.

Let's hope they get this sorted ASAP and next month's DDs come out as expected or Santander are going to lose out given the bad publicity.

If you type "Cahoot Loan" into Google, this board comes up 4th - it's pretty easy to gain a bad reputation online.
I urge all posters on this board to include the words 'Cahoot', 'Santander' and a negative adjective of your choice in all posts from now on. This does wonders for their online image!

    Hi

I phoned them this morning and - guess what - they can't tell me anything because I failed the security check! I cannot remember the year the loan facility was set up - and I cannot find out. Maybe that's because they shut down online access and haven't so far bothered to send their customers any letter or statement. So I cannot get my balance, cannot access my account, cannot do anything. And I am trying to pay them back money! They don't know when they will be sending out a statement. They don't know anything. What a farce!

Santander is a hopeless operation. Customer service - nul points!
  • Well, I decided to ring this morning to find out what was going on with my unpaid direct debit on 0870 5680191. I got through straight away and I have to say that the person I spoke to was very helpful. She explained that my new direct debit hadnt been set up in time to collect March's payment but should be set up for my (final!) april payment. I have agreed to pay March's payment by phone and will wait to see what happens at the end of this month!:rotfl:

Just thought I'd add my comment to the cahoot/santander saga...
my DD didnt go either I called to pay manually as i never recieved a letter/call anything...
same old - their fault, problem with system..wont ruin my credit rating etc etc, guy was really nice, so didnt give him a hard time until he asked me for £151 rather than the £146 I usually pay...? Its a fixed rate loan - and I've had it for 4 years. He tells me that in fact cahoot got it wrong, and I have not been paying enough - and did I want my original credit agreement sent out, said no thanks i have it right here and its in black and white its £146 a month - apparently a manager is calling me back, I know its only a fiver a month, but it works out quite a bit over a 7 year loan term - and surely my credit agreement for a fixed loan is binding, if cahoot got it wrong that's their bad!?
  • Hi All
Another disgruntled Cahoot/Santander Circus victim here
It beggars belief the level of incompetence shown by these numbskulls.

My last Cahoot DD went out on the 2nd March (usually leaves end of month) and low & behold a week or so later I see the Santander DD on my list - hadn't authorised this but as the account number was the same figured part of the transfer - no biggy and thought all going smoothly so far - no doubt will get an email/letter shortly advising me to cancel the Cahoot DD and advising me all future payments will be taken from the new Santander DD......

Well, no email or letter has arrived and no DD taken so called them today to enquire what was going on (before i found this forum). First chap said he would transfer me to the Loans Customer Service as I'd come through to the main CS - fine I thought - lady answers, I explain I would like to know what is happening with my DD and she replied was I looking to increase my loan today  I said No because i want to find out what is happening with my account, so she passed me to a third Dept and lo & behold it had just turned 2pm so the line went dead :mad:

I am now trying to see if I can transfer my balance to a new product away from this bunch of simpletons so I never have to deal with them again and will happily tell all & sundry to avoid Santander at all costs (and as i work in the Finance industry hope to bring as much bad press to this lot as I possibly can)

    Regards
    Disgruntled
