I seem to be going through tyres very often, i get the middle range tyres i.e not the cheapest and not the most expensive . would i be better payingmore for a tyre would it last me longer than the current mid price tyre or does it not make a difference and the expensive tyre is just paying for a name ??

Thanks

Personal choice up to a point. I try and look for a tyre that meets my requirements but all tyres are a compromise.

    Price
    Wear
    Handling (wet and dry)
    Stopping (wet and dry)
    Aesthetics
    Advertising budgets

    http://www.tyretest.com/ is worth a look

I inevitably end up for something in the middle price wise :)

Tyres are a massive compromise, more grip = shorter life.

You need to find where you want to be on the scale and find the best compromise, but just spending more may not give you longer life.
(well tyre life any way, but it may increase yours ;))

Also depends on your style of driving, and whether or not there are any mechanical reasons for them wearing out (tracking issues for example). My old Pug 406 had a range of tyres fitted over the years, and the mid priced tyres I had were on a par with the more expensive brand names.

I normally wait for costco to do their 20% discount on michelin tyres (which are cheap at costco even without discount) and then go and shop around for a deal to beat it. two months ago i did and tyre sales agreed to match costco price and gave £40 sainsbury vouchers on top. total price, for 4x4 car, came to £330 for 4 michelin tyres (normally cost around £550). Formula one auto centres will also beat costco quote and give you 10% off

Its a real balance this one (no pun intended). Avoid unbranded wakamakatashi tyres. Always go for the best, branded, tyre you can afford. Shop around, costco, black circles etc, also try using a locl independent (they can be cheaper than you think).

I found http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/ very competitive. Order and pay on line and have them fitted at National Tyres. Ordered mine late Monday afternoon for fitting on Friday. Had a phone call Tuesday at 4pm and went and got them fitted.

Your style of driving will have much more to do with how long they last than the type you buy. Have a look on the sidewall of the tyre you are using, they show a wear rating, can't recall the grading offhand, but it will give a comparison in harness between tryes. ;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

  • Tyres are your only point of contact with the road. It's one area on a car really not worth economising on. By all means hunt down the cheapest deals on tyres you can, but make sure those tyres are a reputable brand.

How long do your tyres last and what kind of car is it?
If the wear is uneven then it points to a geometry problem, and £15 on a tracking check or £80-£100 on a full geometry check and adjustment could be money well spent. Likewise altering your driving style could save £££'s in wear and tear acrosss all your components, not just tyres.

yep look for the best deals on main brand tyres (dont go for performance tyres unless your a boy racer)

there have been several tests that show budget tyres can double your stopping distance in the wet ..
