A German-owned energy supplier has been named as Britain's worst utility company, responsible for 'abject' customer service.

npower, which has 6.5 million UK customers and is owned by German giant RWE, tops a league of shame compiled by the consumer group Which? following a survey of 8,000 of its members.

Just 27 per cent of npower's customers were satisfied, meaning almost three-quarters were not happy with the service and were unlikely to recommend the company - the worst rating in the history of Which? surveys.

Spends more on sport which shows where the directors are most of the time, Has been fined by O.F.T. in the not so recent past for Big Money , For miss selling by its Customer Services , When you write to H.R.H at Least you get a polite note back- But N-power will never do that !

I have used npower and can confirm they're the most incompetent utility I've had the pleasure of dealing with. It seems the only way to get them to correct their own errors is to threaten them with the regulator.

Even when you leave, the incompetence continues. It took weeks for them to repay the credit balance from my gas account. Every time I called they changed the story "we're sending a cheque", "we'll do a refund to your bank account", "the cheque's been posted", etc..

I find it hilarious that the government see one aspect of Smart Metering as enabling quicker and smoother switches. But as long as the same incompetent suppliers are in business, it doesn't matter how many meter readings you take if they don't know how to use their own IT systems!!

    Hi

I've been with Npower a while and never had any problems. I switched to a online tariff via email and send meter readings when I receive a email from them.

    I am a happy customer.

    Hi

I'm ok until March 2011 when my dual fuel tariff ends.

I know there aren't many happy Npower customers on this forum.

  • Bear in mind that the survey was taken last year and so would not reflect the current ratings.

Gotta love the Daily Mail for the slightly racist overtone of that headline! :rotfl:

The Times ran exactly the same article but made no mention of them being German owned
