When we went to Euro Disney I took a bike lock with the number combination lock on it and secured it against any post near where we needed to leave it.

It is possible to buy small combination locks for about £10 that have a retractible cable. We use them on our skis.

They will not stop somebody really determined but will prevent them yours because it is easy - or even because they mistake yours for their very similar one.

It will not recover your loss but will reduce the risk of it happening again and presumably would mean your insurance remained valid.

Was yours a particularly valuable pushchair in comparison to the other 79 left, if not it seems rather strange that yours was targeted by a thief. I assume that you did check later to make sure that the thief hadn't merely taken yours by accident & left hers instead? Instead of spending time counting the others it's a shame you didn't spend time buying a lock prior to your weekend break. I guess Center parcs charge more than I can afford for their breaks to compensate people who can't look after their own belongings & need someone to blame when it goes wrong.
Think you've come to the wrong place for sympathy,

Any advice over what to do next??

Put up a praise thread for centre parcs as it doesn't sound like they could have been more helpful :T

    Buy a cheap bicycle lock.

Did you take out travel insurance or have travel insurance with your bank?

We had a theft last your from our tent (which def is something you can not lock up) I forgot about travel ins but my hubby found we have travel ins with our bank and they paid for the stolen items. Might be worth a check.

I agree though in as must as centre parks couldn't have done any more for you they were a lot more helpful than the site we were on x

  • I must say when we went to Center parcs I was worried about this exact same thing. I got a cheap second hand buggy to take with us so I didn't care about leaving it or it getting muddy etc. There is no way I was going to leave our expensive travel system or stroller in the buggy areas. I seem to remember somewhere either or the center parcs website or on the e-mails they sent about our booking that bikes and pushchairs should be left locked with cycle chain. I must say I was shocked when we got there and people had left very expensive buggies worth over £500 outside pool area unlocked! I must say I didn't see any trouble or hear of any getting stolen but I bet they have some weekends/weeks where loads go missing - that woman probably took a different buggy each day?

What made me laugh that people locked cheap looking bikes up outside but didn't lock expensive buggies up?? Seemed mad to me?? I am actually suprised Center Parcs gave you a gift voucher - I am glad they did but I can't see that you can take it any further other than the police hopefully catching the woman.

  • I agree its sensible to lock up an expensive posession like a buggy, but I was just at CenterParks in Lakes, and there was nowhere to lock your buggy to??? Presumably given CP know there will be lots of people with buggies, it would be sensible to provide a place to actually secure them to?

Just a thought really, dont think its all OPs fault here!

maybe its all an elaborate scam where its actualy a centre parks employee who steals buggys everyday they then give the victem £60 of vouchers to keep them sweet then sell the buggy on at around £100
  • OP people like you really are a big problem in today's society - arguing that if there were no signs telling you to lock your pushchair then it's Centre Parks fault that it was stolen? I mean seriously...

Presumably if there are no signs in the car park telling you to lock your car then it's the company's fault if your car gets stolen? Are you really so unintelligent that you require signs like this to make up for a total lack of common-sense - then grumble that signs weren't put up to warn you to lock your front door, car, pushchair etc when things go wrong?

People like yourself have been so influenced by advertising that tells us that, for example, big yellow signs for the hard of thinking warning of a wet floor must be used in shop entrances on rainy days with people walking in and out - anyone with half an ounce of common sense knows that floors are wet on rainy days and takes extra care.

You neglecting to secure your positions then complaining that no sign told you to do so is your fault, not the fault of Centre Parks - in the same way that if you leave your front door wide open and come home to find your house has been burgled, it isn't the local authority's fault for failing to put up signs saying 'Remember to lock your front door'.

Seriously grow up and take some responsibility for your own inaction.
