  • PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, do not contact or take the advice of Unfair Credit Direct, I have been stung very badly by this company. They started acting for me at the beginning of 2009, telling me that they only take on cases that ARE 100% UNENFORECEABLE and that in the UNLIKELY event that my account is enforceable that I would received 100% of my fees (£690) back. After months of writing to the lender on my behalf they told me to stop paying as it was unenforcable, months went by where I received calls, letters, etc from the lender and eventually they took me to court, I contacted unfair credit and told them and they told me that "the barristers" would handle it and get the date postponed. DID NOT happen and the case went ahead in my absence and a decree was issued. At this point after months of advising me not to pay they told me that perhaps it was in my best interest to start paying again. After making a formal complaint they told me that I was only entitled to half my money back due to their considerable costs, despite their website saying that they give full refunds and now I'm in a worse situation than I was at the start of last year with more money to pay to the lender (including court fees for the other side) and a default and decree against my name which makes it almost impossible to get credit in the future. So once again please DO NOT have this company act for you as they are unhelpful during the process of getting your account written off and even less helpful when they don't get your account written off and you ask for a refund.

That is dreadful advice and the last thing you should do. You should report them to the MoJ. Stopping payments is the one thing you should never do.

The MoJ do read emails and respond to them. Please report them as they are scamming other people as well and the only way they will stop is if the MoJ know about it and deal with them.

  • I have reported Unfair Credit Direct to the Ministry of Justice, I also sent Unfair Credit an email enclosing a copy of the letter I sent to the MOJ and their casual reply was basically we'll wait and see what the MOJ have to say so I don't think they're too worried but at least it might put other people off paying these guys. I will post details of the outcome.
  • Please whatever you do do not give any money to unfair credit last may 2009 paid them £499.00 after seeing a ad in national papers they seemed all above board
they said that my loan was irresponsible lending
and it would take no more than five months to get
a satisfactory outcome signed all the relevant forms
and was told no more forms to fill in and if the outcome
was not in my favour i would get a full refund five months later started to send more forms to fill in which
seemed to me a delaying tactic contacted them in may 2010
and asked why no progress had been made they said it
was not their fault for the delays it was the barristers
and courts fault so i asked for my money back as they
had broken their word they said if you want a refund there would be administration charges so either way i just cant win as this could take forever and you just wont get your money back do not give them your money as its a win win situation for them but not for you
  • I have today received a cheque for £690 being the total amount of costs I paid to Unfair Credit Direct. They have paid this after I had written to MOJ in relation to my claim. They have admitted that they unintentionally mislead me in relation to my account with the Clydesdale Bank. Also they were unaware that the Clydesdale Bank were registered in Scotland and this resulted in some of the confusion regarding my case. The £690 was paid after they orginally offered to pay £289 which was my original fee less their "considerable costs" but once the MOJ got involved the full amount was refunded.
  • I am new to this forum, but I was encouraged by your posting confirming your refund from Unfair Credit Direct. I fell for their advert last year and handed over £495, as you understand a year on - no results. I am going to contact the MOJ to try and get my money back. Thank you for reporting them to the MOJ!

I'm also new to this forum but not to Unfair Credits Direct.

I was contacted by a certain K e v i n C a r t e r in Junuary 2009 who took in £800 in cash (£500 for the 1st loan and £150 for each consecutive loan/credit card - 3 loans/credit cards) and told me my loans will be written off within 8 weeks and the fact that I paid him cash directly was to insure that my application 'went to the top of the pile.' He also knew I was facing redundancy.

He then got Unfair Credit Direct to take a further £885 from one of the credit card accounts to pay for their typical fees and I, rather stupidly, did not mind because I thought it was all going to get written off anyway within a few weeks.

19 months later, not only am I still paying the loans, but because Unfair Credit Direct had taken their upfront fees from one of the credit cards the latter charging me close to 29%PA on the £885 I have paid an additional £385 on interest only on the amount taken by Unfair Credit Direct bringing my total expenses to £800+£885+£385=£2070

I have requested updates on a monthly but I keep being told that the lenders are 'using every delaying tactic under the sun' and that 'the success of the test cases had opened the flood gates . . .'. The last quote was from a five months old update.

I have resolved to pay off my loans and to seek a refund on the £885 from Unfair Credit Direct, but you can see that I'll be at least £1185 worse off if they pay me.

A policeman once told me, 'If something sounds too good to be true; then it probably is.'

    You have been warned!
  • Hi,
I am unfair Credit Direct customer for nearly for 2 years and disputing 2 accounts with them. My sister also has joined them 2 years ago and was keep calling for updates regarding her disputes, but always was told that cases are going strong and will be passed for court hearing soon.
We had nobody of our friends who would have any cases completed and written off until few days ago finally 1 my sisters case did get to court and was confirmed by court as bad debt.
I hopping and waiting for my disputes to be sorted....at least these is some light at the end of the tunell and some hope..

Seeing as court cases that rule in favour of the consumer tend to make the media as they are so rare, can you give us the case name so we can look up the details of the ruling to see what was said?

The courts do not rule that the debts are written off. At best they can be made unenforceable but that destroys your ability to get credit again (including mortgages and possibly mobile phone contracts, monthly insurance premiums etc).
