Happy 40th Birthday Missy!!!
I cant believe you couldnt run half a mile when you started!! Would you say going for a run 3 times a week from here on in would at least see me run half of it? I think what stops me alot is my running technique, i think i waste so much energy in not jogging/running properly. I feel that i either have to walk or sprint, there is no inbetween for me else it doesnt feel right. That matched with my joints, it feels like im wearing them down when i run. I wont even mention my lungs ha. I'll need to get better trainers too.
Oh do you know/remember that website where you can track how far you have run?

Happy birthday Missy - hope you had a fantasic 40th.
Good luck for the run Vix - are you being sponsored for it?
I hope you've all had a less eventful weekend than me - discovered woodworm (active) in a piece bedroom furniture at Grandad's house (which we're doing up to rent out to help pay for his care home fees). On further inspection all the bedroom furniture had it.
On breaking up the furniture to get small enough to put in the car to take to the tip - I fell headfirst onto a piece of metal sticking out of the gas metre and have cut the top of my head. Cue a very pale and shocked mother telling me to stop rubbing my sore head because I was bleeding (and lots of blood).:eek:
I hope Victory that things will improve with your son soon.0 -

Vix try http://gb.mapometer.com/en/ for measuring distances
.
If you want to train for the 5K, I'd recommend walking the distance a few times first, a brisk walk will probably take you just under an hour.
Then gradually introduce a bit of running, definitely don't sprint, keep it really slow! The slower you run, the longer you'll be able to run for. A good trick is to walk briskly and increase speed until you are JUST breaking into a run, then don't go any faster than that!
Keep running as long as you can (even if it's half a mile or less), then walk the rest. Next time, try to run a little bit further if you can, and so on each time you go out.
Couple of golden rules, always assess how you're feeling before you go for a run, and don't increase the weekly mileage by more than 10% each week (or any single run by more than 10% of the previous longest one).
This isn't how I started to run I have to admit, but it's what I'd do if I was beginning now, based on everything I've learnt in the past two years of running! Good luck! :j
Thanks Beanie, Fred & Vix for the bday wishes!Fred  at your injury, hope you're resting.

I 2nd the fact the 40's are the best decade of all so far. Definitely true for me. I'm banking on you being right once I get there granny:D
Lois - never heard of that tea. I imagine it's claims are loblocks.
Fred:eek:. Take it easy for a ew days!
Victory - that is so fantastic that you haven't resorted to food during such a stressful time. Well done. I am sorry the siuation is on going with your son. On the plus side he is learning some practical independence. It is quite good at 16 that he is taking care of his own washing and such like. But it's a shame he wasn't ready to take the offer of a truce.
Vix - brilliant stuff. You could try the 'couch to 5k' training programme:

Maybe we have got something to look forward to after all :rotfl:4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
