Price of replacing front discs...

The last OEM I tried to get came as the "serviceline" range.
Apparently OEM actual original quality were a special order, the ones the dealer fit are a service grade. I didn't take them, I then tried Ferodo, same with them, the motor factor held the service grade, not the OEM grade. The Mintex ones I finally found were the only ones I could get that stated they were the original quality. I didn't even know a service grade existed before that. (to be fair, it was the dealer that told me, as I said I wanted OEM, so he checked that was what I really wanted)
Hmmm - interesting.
I can buy Vauxhall/GM pads for trade prices although I don't know what kind of quality they'd be - they'd perhaps be the "service grade" you refer to.0 -

and also how often this needs to be done on the average car?
We have a nissan note. It is just 3 years old and during its first MOT, the advisory comment was that the front discs are slightly worn and will need replacing. The car has done 26k miles,,,, is this a normal condition, it sounds very early to me? It does a lot of motorway driving.
Its a nissan dealership who have stated this and they say that the price will be 230 quid, obviously including the front pads too (as they do them at the same time)
how does this compare?
thanks
The quote is expensive but unless you get a second opinion from a different garage (and do not tell that garage that you're getting his second opinion), you should have the work done.
Nobody here can see your car, and therefore nobody can tell you if the brakes need replacing or not.0 -

Was that you driving the truck in that video on the news recently, the one with the car stuck across the front of it, the truck still driving down the motorway without a care in the world then?0 -

The original point is age does not wear pads & disc's out, mileage does and usage equates to mileageANURADHA KOIRALA ??? go on throw it in google.0 -

it doesn't really though does it? driving 100 miles round a city will require more use of the brake than driving 100 miles on a motorway normally. same mileage less use.
vehicle application is much more relevant to brake wear i would say....work permit granted!0 -
Incorrect, when it comes to wear & tear on brakes, mileage IS relevant,
age is irrelevant
Not in the context of this post which is discs only. Yes of course they will wear out eventually, often at the same time as the OE pads which are much harder now. It is far more common for discs to fail due to the car standing for long periods, at change of ownership for example, and also when some part of the braking system stiffens up preventing the discs from being "wiped" correctly by the pads. The build up of rust then spell death for the discs, not the mileage it has covered.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Loads of Micras and Notes start life as hire cars - which happen to be the best braking cars in the universe.
It also depends on the driver and whether the car is an automatic. My dads Micra auto had new discs and pads at around 30k.The man without a signature.0
