Be honest, would you be bothered to sort out some customers special request when you are not long out of school and working for just above minimum wage and being forced to ask everyone in the store if they need help at least 3 times per person.

Edited to add: Do consider the Game extra warranty as I took one out on special offer of £7 for the wii and they replaced it with a new one when it broke down with only 3 months to go on the 3yr warranty.

In GAME I always find that the managers are the ones that stick out like a sore thumb compared with the rest of the staff yet in Gamestation I never even notice who might be the manager they all seem on the same level and are much friendlier. I'm sure they must have managers I just never notice them.

Always have preferred Gamestation over GAME especially now GAME seem to be going overboard selling extras at the till now. I bought a £2.99 Wii game at the weekend and they tried getting me pre-ordering games, buying extra wii-motes and nun-chucks, wii-points and trading in any old games I had. I thought WH-Smith was bad with their half price chocolate this was really overboard.

yes i found that with gamestation re which ones the boss, they dont have a uniform and name badge to signify whos which rank, amount of times ive been into game i cant say ive seen someone who looks like hes in charge whereas with gamestation if its the guy who i think is in charge then 8 times out 10 he is always behind the till serving customers or doing something else
  • Thanks everyone to for the responses.

I think a few people have missed my point though. I have no problem with not getting what I wanted. The salesman had every right to decline. What got my back up was that he could give me EXACTLY what I wanted if I was prepared to buy the extended warranty.

I chose to not buy and left the shop, it was the follow up rudeness and sarcastic behaviour towards a long standing loyal customer which was unacceptable.

So therefore it was not EXACTLY what you wanted

  • I'd find it hard to believe the lies about the till. It's pretty easy to scan any goods you want, then input a discount manually, even the most basic of tills can do this.

And tills can also have a note stuck to them telling people not to add manual discounts against certain packages.

As consumers we have the right to ask for discounts, to haggle, to try and get the best price for everything.

But shops have the right to say 'no, this is the price, take it or leave it'.

This is quite an old post but to be honest what I would have done is agree to buy the extended warantee, get the game I wanted (and see if there could be a little extra discount for buying the warranty) and pay. Return home, cancel the exended warantee (you have a cooling off period)- sent recorded delivery. For less than £1 in stamp/ink etc you would have had exactly what you wanted, job done

I have bought loads of stuff for the kids, and have found them friendly and helpful. You didn't like the offer, so you then had a choice of not buying or buying, the special offers are there to give better value for money, why didn't you just buy the special offer, then use your money to buy the games you wanted.

I expect the OP went on and on asking for a better deal, and couldn't accept that his request wasn't being accepted, this seems to be a major issue these days, I would have told you to sod off if I am being honest, GAME won't go bankrupt due to losing your business, and to be honest customers with such a self centred attitude are not worth having.

Basic tills maybe, however in large companies, where the EPOS system is used, tills require a supervisor key to override a price and management authority (usually using guidelines from Head Office).
