I recently visited my local Game store with the intention of buying a new Nintendo DS XL.

As usual I try and negotiate best package deal for me as the buyer. There was a package deal which included the console and one game out of a pre selection of 4 games. As none of the games were suitable to our needs, I asked if we could have an alternative game choice for same cost? I was also looking at purchasing at leat a coule of additional games at the same time.
( Previously the manager has pretty much let me mix and match in order to get my hard earned cash in his till).
On this occasion the saleman denied my request citing the words:

The till would not be able to scan the change in game within the package price.

The til would not recognise the products

    The world would implode

    It can not be done.bla,bla,bla.

Now I know that anything within reason can be done and that they simply do the manual adjustment at the till, therefore the saleman was blatantly lying when he said it could not be done.I don,t use the word liar lightly as only a couple of minutes later he told me he could infact allow me a game of my choice for the same package price as that being offered by game, but onlyif I was to purchase the extended warranty on the console.

So if I don,t buy the extended warranty, my request could not be made, remeber he said, till would not recognise/scan the products and that the world would implde if he tried.

However if prepared to buy extended warranty, could have what I was earlier told could not happen.

I like to consider myself reasonable intelectual but no matter how hard I tried I could not work out how the till would be able to scan items when I cross it with an additional £30 for the warranty. The world would no longer implode.

I would have respected his decision if he had stuck to the party line that he could,nt give me what I wanted. I also understand it is the retailers choice whether he is prepared to be a bit flexible. However to lie to customers is nothing short of disgraceful and at that point, I was mentaly spending my hard earned dosh elsewere.

If this was,nt bad enough, when challenging the salesman and politly advising him that I would be going else where because I did,nt approve of the tactics used to try and get me to buy an extended warranty, he sarcasticaly told me it was my choice. Then as I left the shop he again in a sarcastic tone wished me good bye and have a nice day sir, whilst giggling with his colleauge like a silly little child, hardly the behaviour of proffesional organisation.

Anyway, took the opportunity to e mail complaint to Game. Yet again the great customer service has extended to their customer service department who as yet have not looked into my complaint despite having to resend the complaint as they could,nt find the original.

Some kind person has provide the e mail address of the head of customer services, lets see if he values loyal customers a bit better than the salesman and customer service advisors and that he is prepared to at least investiagte my complaint.

I think calling them 'Disgraceful' is a particularly stupid comment, as they have done nothing wrong.
YOU wanted a different deal and are bleating that they wouldn't comply.
I like to consider myself reasonable intelectual
But not intellectual enough to spell 'intellectual' correctly or even make a statement that makes sense :T

The DS XL is brand new. They, like most other stores, have (wisely from a business perspective) put together packages in order to get rid of games that are not selling. If you want a specific game they have every right to say no or bump the price up. Think about it, you would be swapping some game like Pokemon which might be worth the same as Mario new now, but has a secondhand price of about £5, whereas the mario game would have a secondhand price of about £20 ..you seriously expected them to swap games for nothing???

    Buy from supermarkets anyway:
    1) Better service.
    2) Usually cheaper.
    3) More possibility of them swapping games coz they make so much money anyway and the staff generally know nothing about games.
    4) No quibble guarantees/swaps if anything breaks
    5) Supermarkets have 24hr stores should you need to take anything back urgently.
    6) More points for your nectar/club card (points worth more than on Game card).
    7) More staff = less queues
    8) Free parking... the list goes on.

In fact High street shops are all pretty useless.

Only downside is a far worse selection of games, but that's why I tend to get my games online.

As everyone knows, these deals always involve games that are not the best. Toys R us are notorious for bundling rubbish games in with packages to get rid of them. Obviously the manager is going to try and sell the warranty as it looks better on him!!!!! As previous posters have said supermarkets are loads better much cheaper as is play.com and using cashback sites gets you money back as well. These are basic shopping tips that any intellectual would know.

Or the other one triggerrabbit, as us wii customers will atest to, bundle a great game with the console that pretty much requires 15 different add-on pieces of hardware are bought to get access to all the games features!

I find console gamings one thing its very hard to give a blanket statement on wheres cheapest or best, prices for games especially seem to vary massively. I've seen Shaun WHites Snowboarding 2 for between 8.99 and 35.99 over the period of a month, with the ebay price at about 14 and the cheapest being blockbuster video.
  • Obviously prices vary, however Ebay games could well be stolen and blockbuster pre-owned or you may need to trade in to get the deal.
    ACHIEVING THE AIM SINCE.........
  • Hmm, I'm not sure I'd be too upset. Sometimes packaged deals are to entice people into buying the system with products "everybody wants," other times they are to move certain products that may or may not be what the customer wants. And really, the deal is the deal. That's my perspective, anyway.

I got my DSi XL a few days after launch from Gamestation. They weren't pushing any unwanted games in a bundle. I got £60 trade in for my DS lite and £8 for an unwanted Wii game. Also had £52 on my trade in card already, so I got the XL for next to nothing. Was offered accidental damage cover for £20, but I refused this and it was no problem.

I guessed that Game and Gamestation were part of the same company ages ago, as I found that Gamestation sometimes use Game till receipts.

I have never made a large purchase from Game, only the odd game disc or accessory. Have only done my major purchases from Gamestation, I find their staff to be very knowledgeable.

OP - I suggest that if you don't like what a certain shop are offering then just vote with your feet and go somewhere else.

Now, now, no games on the wii require more than one piece of extra hardware.

The wii comes with the wiimote and nunchuck and that's enough for most games.

Motion plus comes with any game that requires it.

The balance board comes with wii fit and wii speak comes with animal crossing and monster hunter tri (should you wish to use it).

Anything else, such as the tennis racquets, steering wheels etc are completely pointless and are in no way mandatory, nor do they enhance the experience. If anybody falls for those add-ons then more fool them.

    Anything else
