GAME: Disgraceful behaviour

I recently visited my local Game store with the intention of buying a new Nintendo DS XL.

As usual I try and negotiate best package deal for me as the buyer. There was a package deal which included the console and one game out of a pre selection of 4 games. As none of the games were suitable to our needs, I asked if we could have an alternative game choice for same cost? I was also looking at purchasing at leat a coule of additional games at the same time.
( Previously the manager has pretty much let me mix and match in order to get my hard earned cash in his till).
On this occasion the saleman denied my request citing the words:

The till would not be able to scan the change in game within the package price.

The til would not recognise the products

The world would implode

It can not be done.bla,bla,bla.

Now I know that anything within reason can be done and that they simply do the manual adjustment at the till, therefore the saleman was blatantly lying when he said it could not be done.I don,t use the word liar lightly as only a couple of minutes later he told me he could infact allow me a game of my choice for the same package price as that being offered by game, but onlyif I was to purchase the extended warranty on the console.

So if I don,t buy the extended warranty, my request could not be made, remeber he said, till would not recognise/scan the products and that the world would implde if he tried.

However if prepared to buy extended warranty, could have what I was earlier told could not happen.

I like to consider myself reasonable intelectual but no matter how hard I tried I could not work out how the till would be able to scan items when I cross it with an additional £30 for the warranty. The world would no longer implode.

I would have respected his decision if he had stuck to the party line that he could,nt give me what I wanted. I also understand it is the retailers choice whether he is prepared to be a bit flexible. However to lie to customers is nothing short of disgraceful and at that point, I was mentaly spending my hard earned dosh elsewere.

If this was,nt bad enough, when challenging the salesman and politly advising him that I would be going else where because I did,nt approve of the tactics used to try and get me to buy an extended warranty, he sarcasticaly told me it was my choice. Then as I left the shop he again in a sarcastic tone wished me good bye and have a nice day sir, whilst giggling with his colleauge like a silly little child, hardly the behaviour of proffesional organisation.

Anyway, took the opportunity to e mail complaint to Game. Yet again the great customer service has extended to their customer service department who as yet have not looked into my complaint despite having to resend the complaint as they could,nt find the original.

Some kind person has provide the e mail address of the head of customer services, lets see if he values loyal customers a bit better than the salesman and customer service advisors and that he is prepared to at least investiagte my complaint.

I am really surprised by this post.
I have dealt with Game for years, never had a problem even when reporting 'missing games' in the post, always had apologies and replacements, they have given me new Controllers even when my old one was out of warranty. I cannot praise them high enough.
I can only assume you have an inexperienced nerd for a Manager at the shop you visited.
    You live..You learn.:)
  • as one "reasonable intelectual" to another, did you find it cheaper anywhere else?

So basically because Game didn't give you what YOU wanted, THEY are a disgrace? Have you stopped to think that maybe the till would only scan a different game if the warranty was purchased? Just walk away from this and go to a store where you can get the package that you want rather than causing a scene in Game.

Erm, right, so you wanted a special deal just for you, they said no, but offered you a special deal if you bought a warranty, therefore they're a disgrace?

You're point about the till is probably right, but they may have an official special deal with purchase of a warranty.
I don't blame him for having a laugh, you probably made his day less boring. :p

I knew that Game own Gamestation, but I have found the staff in Gamestation to be much nicer, in general. They may have lots of tatoos, piercings etc., but they have given my 10 year old free stuff on a couple of occasions - he bought a Donkey Kong game for £2 and they gave him free bongos (Telford), they let him have a £10 used game instead of the £2 game he should have got, when he bought a £10 Gamecube console (Altrincham).

I find the staff ok in Game, but the managers not so nice - I wonder if they are on some bonus scheme as they always seem a bit grumpy and wound-up.
