GAME: Disgraceful behaviour
Comments

It's hardly "disgraceful behaviour". This post is defamatory.0
-
You wanted something which sometimes the manager allows - fair do's. The sales assistant said they wouldnt do this, and pointed out the company legislation, he then offered you a compromise. How is that disgraceful?! I think somebodies trying for compensation!!Learning to be 'good with money'0
-
i think the op is more annoyed about them lying and saying it wasn't possible... then 2 minutes later saying actually it IS but you have to pay X amount for it...
if wouldve been better if the SA was upfront about it in the first place then maybe the op wouldve said ok and bought it!
don't think complaint should say how disgusted you... merely point out that HONESTY is something they should maybe cover a little more in staff training?0 -

Sometimes in shops like Game where the staff are little more than checkout robots, they don't necessarily know WHY they are or aren't allowed to do something, just they're told they can't.
Then he remembered how he COULD do it.
The problem is that sometimes honesty makes things worse. He clearly couldn't do what OP wanted because Game gets those games for the offer on a special margin from the supplier, so they still make some profit.
The other game, though going for the same selling price would be on a lower margin and would cause the package to make a loss.
I've told a customer that I can't give them a deal because I'd make no money on it and they go ballistic and call me a liar and refuse to believe that the margins are that small.
If I then said, "I can sell you it with THIS though, because it's 100% profit" they'd just think I was taking the pi$$.
The staff member couldn't have just "made it up on the till" because there would then be an unusual discrepancy that he would have to explain to his manager.
This is a point lots of people don't understand here:
A manager can do something "different" because he doesn't have to answer to anyone for individual transactions so long as the shop as a whole (or certaint departments) are performing well. He has a full view of the financial picture.
The sales assistant has to answer to the manager.
Perhaps OP didn't like the sarcasm from the sales assistant and that's understandable because it was unprofessional, but how did OP speak to the SA? There are two sides to every story.0 -
Then he remembered how he COULD do it.
thats the main problem in all of this - if he suddenly remembered he could he shouldve said "actually I can do it with this..." but from the op's post it seems the SA said there was no way possible in the world of doing it... which if he was a good SA would've been the best sales tactic saying "well i'll do it for you if you get warrenty...."
I like it when SA are honest and open with me and tell me - i can't do that because we'd make no profit - at the end of the day I'm not stupid and know theres mark ups and know they want to get as much out of you as they can0 -
I understand the problem but the post was a little dramatic to say the least.
Try not to assume it is how you see it. 'It can't be done, the world will implode' probably equates to 'if I did this, I could be investigated for discrepancies in the till' or 'I don't have till permissions to do this'.
Some customers I've dealt with seem so shocked to hear of things like stocktakes, they think you can just put in a magic code to make everything work.
It's unlikely you were lied to, it's just in the confusing world of tills and retail, there are workarounds which may not be apparent at the time.
If they can't do what you want, then vote with your feet. But sending complaints about them refusing to accommodate your requests (which are outside their policies) is a little melodramatic, I feel.
Don't take this the wrong way, I just feel that each time you've told this story, it's become a little more embellished as you've focused on what you assume to be the case on their side.0 -
Slightly overdramatic I have to say as posts goAlways ask ACAS0

I want a special deal just for me..........the op has acted the way a three year does when it can't get what it wants.'It can't be done, the world will implode' probably equates to 'if I did this, I could be investigated for discrepancies in the till'
Don't believe for a second that was said, the op has just blatantly come up with this with a poor attempt at humor, although I've never found exaggerators funny. Which would make the op a liar!0 -
The DS XL is brand new. They, like most other stores, have (wisely from a business perspective) put together packages in order to get rid of games that are not selling. If you want a specific game they have every right to say no or bump the price up. Think about it, you would be swapping some game like Pokemon which might be worth the same as Mario new now, but has a secondhand price of about £5, whereas the mario game would have a secondhand price of about £20 ..you seriously expected them to swap games for nothing???
Buy from supermarkets anyway:
1) Better service.
2) Usually cheaper.
3) More possibility of them swapping games coz they make so much money anyway and the staff generally know nothing about games.
4) No quibble guarantees/swaps if anything breaks
5) Supermarkets have 24hr stores should you need to take anything back urgently.
6) More points for your nectar/club card (points worth more than on Game card).
7) More staff = less queues
8) Free parking... the list goes on.
In fact High street shops are all pretty useless."We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." Albert Einstein0 -
I knew that Game own Gamestation, but I have found the staff in Gamestation to be much nicer, in general. They may have lots of tatoos, piercings etc., but they have given my 10 year old free stuff on a couple of occasions - he bought a Donkey Kong game for £2 and they gave him free bongos (Telford), they let him have a £10 used game instead of the £2 game he should have got, when he bought a £10 Gamecube console (Altrincham).
I find the staff ok in Game, but the managers not so nice - I wonder if they are on some bonus scheme as they always seem a bit grumpy and wound-up.
In GAME I always find that the managers are the ones that stick out like a sore thumb compared with the rest of the staff yet in Gamestation I never even notice who might be the manager they all seem on the same level and are much friendlier. I'm sure they must have managers I just never notice them.
Always have preferred Gamestation over GAME especially now GAME seem to be going overboard selling extras at the till now. I bought a £2.99 Wii game at the weekend and they tried getting me pre-ordering games, buying extra wii-motes and nun-chucks, wii-points and trading in any old games I had. I thought WH-Smith was bad with their half price chocolate this was really overboard.0
