Are they perhaps being unreasonable, then?

Maybe, it doesn't bother though I have become very accustomed to wearing a pvc apron for work so I don't really think about it anymore, I just put it on when I arrive at work and leave it on all day even when I take my lunch

I can think worse things than having to wear a pvc apron for work, I think a nice clean pvc apron can look quite smart and professional looking for a hairdresser to wear, it is kind of what I would expect to see if I walked into a nice hair salon. Nylon tabbards are what you expect from a little old fashioned village salon doing old lady perms and blue rinses.
  • I have a pvc apron for when I am doing stuff that stains. For instance pitting cherries.
I like the stpford wives idea of a shower cap. I think I might get one. I don't know what the neighbour with her kitchen window oppostie mine would thik though. Mind you she already thinks I am a bit batty.
I do notice the smell of my hair if I have cooked chips the day before and then have to wash it in the morning.
I trained as a cook and got used to the huge white wrap around apron. Unfortuantely I have ever since wiped my hands down my sides where the apron would have been. I could do with one of those now.

I think it is better for the wet to run off the pinny rather than soak through and ruin you clothes underneath.
For me PVC pinnies rule, the only draw back is that they are bit too warm and sweaty in the hot summer months but they are very practical.

I'm a sloppy so-and-so and find that if i spill liquid on it, it just ends up in my shoe :D At least with a fabric one, I can take it straight off before anything soaks through.

depends on what you wear underneath ;):D

I keep one that I use when painting the ceilings - does make your head sweat though :)

I prefer a pvc apron for gardening though. Haven't managed to find one with pockets to store bits in but accidently discovered using pegs on the pinny to hold gloves, cloths etc in place when not using. I've also added a couple of Lakeland tea-cloth loops to the fabric tie ;)
  • I just want to say thank you everyone for bring a smile to my face on a very dull day, and after talking to MIL I now have a pattern for apron and flowery fabric:D to make myself one this weekend, a tabbard for the housework nice deep pockets:D and a hubby who thinks I have gone even more nuts:rotfl:

Oh and I really like the idea of a little one with deep pockets for the housework and for hanging out the laundry. I will be a domestic goddess yet!

This has also brought a smile to my face!:D Old Aprons or pinnies are very sought after and I've sold loads on Ebay.

I very occasionally used to wear one for cooking and then someone bought me a couple of beautiful new ones and I got to wearing them more often. Then an elderly lady admired mine and said her airing cupboard was full of them and she brought me loads round. She insisted I take them and kept a few for herself.

There were full ones, waist ones, frilly ones, PVC ones, cotton, etc. Some I liked, some I didn't and one day I was browsing ebay and typed in apron/pinny and was amazed at the prices they were fetching. I listed a couple and they sold for good prices. Both went to "gentlemen";) but were of the flowery/frilly variety. I also looked at the list of other stuff they had bought.;):D:j :o

That's all I'm saying :pbut whenever I list one, one of my regulars buys them and gives me brilliant feedback. Prior to aprons I think I led a very sheltered life!:rotfl::rotfl:
