My only concern with the 3 way linking model is choosing the right link partners, as some markets are niche ie the wedding market it is slightly harder. I am a bit of design snob so if I site seems a bit ropey, I would rather do without the link.
Is it better to in some instances to focus on two way linking or do you believe that 3/4/5/6 way linking model can be applied to all websites.

no, seriously, welcome nolongerindenial, the way I'm playing it is starting with a penny I've found.
My plan is simple, sell what I have lying around the house so no need to get tax man involved, cut back spending - a penny saved is a penny earned. face my debt honestly as it's the only way to deal with it.
Then reasses, look at offering services i can do and also resell used, nearly new and new products. When I'm ready to venture into this phase, I will look into the option of going self employed part time and what implications that will have on my current employment and then if, after research it looks ok, I'll do more market research to make sure there is enough interest and how I can work alongside some of the bigger giants of used goods, play,amazon,ebay,preloved etc.
If I feel I'm a little fish in a giant fish tank :-) then I will look at other options.
I managed 371% profit on my first sale yesterday so now sit on £3.72
I'll take small steps and keep the challenge in my mind.
Next step how to turn £3.72 into £10.
If all else fails I will become a personalised merkin designer for the rich and famous. either that or sell hand drawn monkeys in biro on notepaper.
It's all part of the plan, more or less.

Ok a question. for my do somethink differently day I want to host an album of peoples photos about what they do. do you think it would be best to do it as a flickr/picassa album or as an album on my facebook fan page?

Spending an hour on two way linking has as much benefit to your search engine rankings as reading the free local newspaper for an hour in all instances :rotfl:

I completely agree about the choosing the right link partners, however consider at the same time are you in this to make friends on money? I will never link with bad neighbourhoods, however have linked with a couple of questionable websites in my time and due to a bit of luck got away with it. This linking technique has worked in virtually every niche I have worked in, From adult to comparison websites to web hosting.

If you are running a website as a small business, you sometimes have to realise that certain personal principles have to be massaged a little. I am not saying go out there and link to a child labour website saying how great it is - however a link to a badly designed website which 99.9% of people will never follow if your website is good enough - well thats a different story

Also remember I am not talking solely about home page links, these could be on a seperate links page giving even less lieklyhood people will follow them.

have you thought about writing an easy guide to seo -save £££ on services - learn trade secrets from SEO professional secure ebook type thing. Sell it for maybe £20 ago directly through a site which you promote, offer people the chace to affiliate it but not re-sell. Give them enough info to get started but allow for a sequel ??
sorry if I'm thinking random thoughts again.

maybe use the £3.72 as payment for listing fees of your next few items so you can count their sales as pure profit??

Firstly I will cover alexa - as quite simply it is within my window as it scrolls down (not everything is for professional reasons). Alexa rank is a great little tool, it gives you a rough idea of the job you are doing in terms of being the most visited site on the web. However - it has one massive drawback..... It only counts the peoples visits who have its toolbar installed, therefore the more you visit your website, the higher the ranking will be. Another major drawback with made me laugh 12 months ago, was it believed Yahoo was the most popular website on the net, whereas independent research had it at Google. (which was at the time number 2)

There is plenty you can do to your website, have you thought about offering a non-flash alternative for those browsers which do not have flash enabled (IE Web Spiders)

nolongerindenial I am wondering if there is an exception to the 2 way thing if say it is a local business linking to other relevant local services. eg my nephew's dog walking business doing reciprocal links with local pet shops etc. this would then be more about reaching potential customers who are likely to use those services than page ranking etc.
