Sorry feeling in a bit of a daft mood, not a very helpful comment:o0 -
Really chuffed today. My last week's worth of shopping before next pay month - woo hoo! Okay I'm now £15.60 more over budget but look what I got for it:
3lbs beef mince (to make a bolognaise, meatballs and burgers)
6 large belly pork chops (to feed 3 adults and a little one - may be able to 'save' one for another day if cheeky)
6 huge chicken drumsticks (make one meal for same as above, may try to save one again or have with lunch next day...)
All £9.99
Small bag of potatoes
2 punnets grapes
lots of broccolli
tonnes of banannas (about 12 small ones)
punnet strawberries
All £5.20
I plan to make this my meals for next week (but away on Friday so infairness only Mon-Thur meals....). I'm sooo impressed what you can get for you money at the market!!
I can see tesco's fading more and more into the distance in my household now. AND I'm really starting to like my Saturday morning outings there instead of one massive monthly shop, the food of which I get bored with half way through the month. Thanks MSE for making me realise there are better ways of doing things!!

Just checked my grocery budget for the month in Money expecting it to be overspent.... instead I've got £11.15 left, with £10 cashback I got today to last me until the 30th
It might not sound like much since it's only the 12th BUT we will only need fresh fruit and milk, and maybe some cheese :j:T
Right, need to go and put the 2 chickens I've just bought for £5 in the ovenCreeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -

I've gone about £5 over and still have 7 days to go but we'll only need to buy milk, I think. I did loosen the reins a bit this month to have a few treats.
HomeJames - that works out at £7.20ish/kg for the beef pack if you allow £6 for the 2 pies. I think Sainsburys might be slightly cheaper than that - have a play with their online shopping and check out the specific cuts of beef.
The family pack sounds quite good to me.The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0 -

well, ive amazed myself-i was aiming for £50 a week and as you can see ive come in well below the £200 for my month..(£166 i think)
ive been shopping at times when ive thought i'd be able to get reduced stuff and ive made of point of checking the price per kg etc..things like the packet of leeks that i normally get for £1.88 for 500g, compared with loose leeks for £1.98 a kg can make a big difference. and also not assuming that stuff is ceaper cos its in a big packet or is an own brand...
did really well yesterday got 3 packs of chicken breasts normally £4.98 were reduced down to £2.50 each so thats us sorted for about the next 10 days cos we have chicken a couple of times a week..
also, cos we may be going on hol and leaving the kids at home, ive started some batch cooking and freezing them in handy 2 'normal' or 1 large portions-depends if they do rice or pasta etc to go with or not..so this week ive managed to cook up some chicken curry 2 or 4 portions, 2 portions of bologneise, 4-6 portions of chilli and i made a big slow cooker of leek and potato soup and froze 4 portions..at least i know they'll eat while we're away (theyre 18 and 15..gran'll be 'looking after' them, but it means i dont feel i'm imposing too much)Budget for Jan/Feb £240 per 4 weeks
Week 1-£52  Week 2-£75
Week 3-£60.66Week 4-£29.98 Total=£217.58
w/c 18th Feb: £6.500 -
Well I've gone slightly over at £191.44 but considering I lost EVERYTHING in the freezer when it broke down, and my cupboards are stocked enough to see me through until the 27th I think I did pretty well.
:rotfl: I'll have to see what happens next month as it's back to school for DD which means packed lunches again  Oh well, never mind. I'm trying and thats what counts.

Right i am doing the grocery challenge this month.
Normally I spend about £190 per month (that does include cat food and enough veg for a family of greedy lizards).
Now i'm going to cut that right down and I am really really going to try to spend less than £99 for the two of us.
My problem is I go with a strict shopping list then see tuna and salmon steaks reduced (70p for 2 tuna/salmon steaks is an absolute bargain).
So I buy about 8 packs and hubby doesn't even like fish! I'll eat it all one day though.
We did sort out our freezer not long ago and worked out that we have enough meat to feed us for 56 days if we bought nothing new so we wont starve0
