Nearly got it right last month with a budget of £100 and spending of £110 (including toiletries/cleaning stuff and dog foog).
So starting again from August 1st with another £100 effort - this is for 2 adults (1 dieting veggie and 1 carnivore) and a little fluffy white dog that eats absolutely tons! Went to Tesco lats night for fresh stuff as cupboards and freezer are quite full and spent £9.95. Very good for me as I always come out with "extras" that we don't need or want.
I'm away on business next week so that will help with the budget (OH can feed himself!).

    Good luck to everyone else!
    Rachel.

Did the budget last month and we spent nearly £300 (did go OTT at Costco, first time there and there were loads of goodies we wanted, oops...).

So this month (25July until 24 August) my budget is £200 to spend on food. I took it out of the bank account in cash and that's what we've got.
So far we've spend £36.28 on groceries and a shamefull £20 on take away :o

I know £200 for just 2 adults is still quite a lot, but due to work shedules we don't have time to go to markets and loads of different places for different shopping items. So it all comes from the supermarkets (do go to Aldi when we can, but opening hours are quite as flexible as the 24h Asda). Also, we are often away for a few days due to work and have to rely on eating out at those times.
I'm hoping to get it down more over the next few months...

    Hi

I have now spent 144.93 of my £250 budget for this month, I hope I can stay within budget aas I am amazed I have spent so much already - hopefully I will be ok as I have bought most of the months food this week, however OH is in charge of the kitchen for a while as I am due to have an operation on my wrist this week - I have done a menu plan for him - but who knows what will happen in the kitchen!!!

    Jo
    Starting with a clean slate.

  • Had budget for July of £140 but managed to spend £14 over this (did have visitors one weekend which added to budget - lovely to have them though)

This month's budget is reduced to £120 for two of us. DD3 recently moved into own home.

    Good luck everyone!

I tried to do this last month due to excessive skintness and discovered Lidl supermarket, brilliant! Much better quality than the usual supermarkets and a hell of a lot cheaper! Weekly shop for me at Asda is £120 ( me, hubby, 2 kids that eat more than us and a dog) I spent £38 at Lidl the 1st week, now a convert. Be adventurous and try things its great!
    :)
  • Ok I'll give this a go! spent £98 in lidls and asda this weekend on lots of cupboard stuff and am going to the butcher today for the months meat. approx £85 for a family of 5 then i think approx £10 week for milk, bread and veg. my budget is £280 which is a big change from £400 - 500 pm! this doesnt include our weekend bottle of wine and a curry or two! but i have been cutting back for ages and this is it now................

I've decided to do what people have advised and not count my week away in the budget (27th August-4th September). So, that means so far, I have spent the grand total of £9.52 on some bits and pieces for my lunchboxes, and a couple of storecupboard essentials (eg tuna). :) So far so good.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.
