No nothing comes up now, it isn't doing anything unusual at all. Just very wary with it being so new.

I'm quite surprised how it got infected, any idea how to prevent something like this happening? It came with Mcafee installed- which I know isn't everyones favourite - and it also has the obvious windows defender type protection. Is there anything else I should add in/replace?

be wary of " free scans" that pop up , links in emails from people you don't know , emails claiming you need to reset your password

also be wary of downloads from filesharing sites and sites you visit that claim you need to download an add on (unless its a well known site)

    My personal (freeware) favorites are:-

    http://www.malwarebytes.org

So should I stick with McAfee or remove that and replace with another anti-virus?

The anti spyware tools- do they run constanlty like Anti virus or are they ones where you selectively run scans?

I'm obviously no expert on anything, but relatively computer savvy hence my surprise at having this happen. I haven't done anything remotely dodgy on here at all since having it- no dodgy downloads, no dodgy emails. Very bizarre.

This may be an odd question- but these games on facebook-!!!!! wars, poker etc- can these harbour problems as the only other person who uses this PC plays a few and it's the only other explanation I can think of. I dont want to ban them if they're safe - and I know he doesn't click on anything outside the game- ads etc.

if you have paid for antivirus then stick with it (if its still updating) malwarbytes and the others can be updated and run from time to time to make sure its still clean

Thanks, McAfee has updated itself and I've run a full scan which came back clean so hopefully thinkgs are sorted.

Many thanks everyone for the help, I really appreciate it. There's no point having a computer that you're too scared to use but that's almost how I feel right now in case it breaks again!!
